Making Seed

I decided this season I am going to make some seed. If for no other reason than to save some money and have some fun with it. I've been watching the outdoor section for a while especially you grower/breeders, you people are fukin amazing. I figured between the 3 strains of reg seeds I'd have something solid to work with. Started with 3 Goji Og, 3 GDP, and 6 Bangi Haze. The haze was started a month later than the others. I topped the plants then cloned and sexed the cuttings. Goji all female, GDP only 1 seed popped its a female. All of the BH popped and am in the process of sexing the tops now. I think I have a male on board.Banghi haze.JPG this happens to be the more robust one as well...fuck yeah.

A couple questions.. how old should the plant be before I go 12 hours with it and collect some pollen? I have a closet and t-5 I can finish up a male in.
And how far into flower before pollinating a branch?

You can begin pollination as early as you start seeing pistils. I've actually pollinated all the single calyxes that are first to show sex at the base of the node and it will form a single seed that is easily plucked and you can still have unseeded flowers.

You should let your male get a little bit bigger so you can see if the structure is ideal. I've heard that males are more likely to pass on their traits but don't know how true that is. I like to make sure the males smell good when you rub the stems and if they get frosty when the flower.
I'm just a pollen chucker though, I do it just for preservation and if shit ever gets crazy in the world its nice to have lots of seed on hand.

Real breeding takes lots of hard work and selection from huge populations to do it right, which is rare these days it seems. There are new companies every week that just hit elite clones with a male they found in a single pack of seeds and then charge people $10 a seed or more. People still gobble that shit up though.

Good luck finding that breeding male. I will be doing a little pollen chunking this year as well. Providing I get a male. Most of my Sidetracked: strain are showing sex, and I haven't seen a male yet.
