Meet the progressive that's going to hand Joe Manchin his ass in the Democratic primary; Paula Jean

Ebb and flow and desire for 'change', often based on stupidity.

FDR had star power. He raised the standard of living for the common man with SS and the NLRB, supporting unions created a strong middle class and a strong tax base.

A lot of reasons, less good job opportunity, distrust of gov't., self centeredness, greed, conspiracy theory lovers, crazy people, polarization.
FDR got 4 terms not because of 'star power' but because he listened to his constituents and passed legislation that helped them.

We live in an oligarchy. The implication of this is that the People DON'T get what they want, either from Republican or Democratic administrations and that's why they're continually frustrated.

If the People actually got what they need from their government, they'd stick with them.

This isn't a left vs right problem. This is a 'the whole damned system is games by monied interests' problem and the average American citizen is waking up to that fact.

The current administration is helping a lot in this regard, I'm hopeful that will be the Chump's lasting legacy.

So the natural 'ebb and flow', does that mean you believe since there was a Democratic president for 8 years, the pendulum would naturally begin to swing back in favor of Republicans after Obama?

Why do you think there is an ebb and flow to begin with?
I'm with you on the swing and why. There are a lot of people who just don't understand that the left is championing their interests and isn't some kind of communist monster. The brainwashing is deep with these people.

There's a guy on here that says he didn't vote for Trump and wants most of what we do- but didn't vote for Bernie because 'socialism will destroy our country!'

@Green Bud Smurfy I'm referring to you here. No disrespect meant. Just trying to understand your perspective. The bottom line is that allowing corporations and their ultra wealthy shareholders to run our country is destroying it for everyone; both them in the long run AND the rest of us. If you can tell us why you're so concerned about socialism that you'd vote against your own interests maybe we can work together to fix our country.

FDR took over after the country was in a 3 yr. depression and slowly, over time, helped the middle class grow and turned it around. WW II helped also, everybody was working on a unified national goal, jobs for everyone.

He was also a star. The vast majority voted for him, liked him, had his picture hanging somewhere in the house.

My grandma still had his picture hanging when I was a little kid and would tell me who it was and how great he was, and how when he was on the radio, everyone shut up and listened.

That generation revered him.

When he was first elected in 33 you were a teenager, right?

But yeah, my dad and grandmother sure held him in high regard. I've got some pics/clippings/etc. somewhere around here with my JFK stuff.....

Try as you might, you can't convince anybody who uses their whole brain that the Democrats are the same as Republicans.

To wit

If you want to get Citizen's United ruling repealed, first you must have Democrats in charge of Congress. Can you envision a scenario where Republicans would ever do it?

It is a left vs right problem. It should not be a partisan issue but the fascist take over of the Republican party makes it so.

... Why?

Because he saved the country from the rich!

Not quite the same, but both beholden to money, and therefore susceptible to being controlled by it.

We don't agree on everything, and I thought this was a debate?
"The corrupt Democrats are the reason this country won't vote for them. Because they accept corporate donations."

This is debate?
Who are you talking about? Who specifically? Are they really corrupt or are they doing what's necessary staying in office so they can accomplish some good in a system that requires endlessly seeking donations? For the most part, that's what I think but according to you that makes me a shill.

You still haven't answered my question. Which Democratic Party Senator took huge campaign donations from corporations and voted against the Citizen's United repeal in 2014?

I also counter-argue that the way people vote is proof against the idea that the country is thirsting for a left leaning government.

Then we can at least agree to disagree.

We still need the votes on the left. Who cares how far left as long as we vote for Democrats?

And to your question; ask Buck, I don't know.

Pada. Wtf are you doing? You and ttystik lately have been on this huge "we are so much better than you" binge. I've been getting this vibe from you, where you think that you are somehow so much better than us because you guys didn't vote for the nominee (which, to me, feels the same as voting for the opposition). Excuses include words like establishment, donor class, centrist, wallstreet shill, etc.

With all respect, do you ever stop and re-think those positions you guys (@ttystikk @Padawanbater2 ) took, when he tries to pull some disgusting bullshit, like firing the head of the investigative team looking at the ties between him and russia?

Do you ever stop and think, gee, I don't like how Hillary handled her campaign, but she would probably be a better figurehead than this lying piece of racist, sexist, autocratic, shitstain-garbage?

I don't think I'm better than anyone. I'm just further to the left. Okay, I'm definitely better than Uncle Buck. :P

I voted for Bernie in the primary and when he lost I voted for Mrs Clinton in the general. So don't blame me! That's how primaries are supposed to work. Colorado went for Bernie, and then Clinton. Look it up

The facts are that no one is a more popular sitting politician in America today than Bernie Sanders and that it doesn't have to do with anything other than his stand on the issues.

Yet the attitude of the establishment Democratic Party, as voiced by the likes of Tom Perez among others, is that his ideas aren't worth considering. With an attitude like that, why would you defend THEM? o_O

If this refers to me, you'd be wrong. I wanted a new face and fresh ideas on the White House. You know damn well that I voted for Clinton in the general.

You're a twister of facts. It costs you respect. Worse, your pugnacious approach does not win votes, it entrenches people's attitudes which does not help our shared cause.

What cause is that, you ask? Keeping monsters like the Chump and Pence the fuck out of office.

Your tactics suck. Do something about that.

no, i meant padaraper.

i don't twist facts, you just don't like how bluntly i state them at times.

my approach IRL was to make calls and knock on doors for months. it helped. did you do the same? no.
