Mini Split Selection

Any comments on this mini split? Good or bad? I am liking the long warranty of 5/7 years. Want to get it set up with wifi so I can change temp from my phone or via wifi. Thanks for the input since I am totally new to mini splits. Just need a 9,000 btu one nothing huge. But need to operate close to 0 degrees ferenheit. Thank you

Why didn’t you like the DIY? The Mr Cool APP is the biggest POS in the APP store.

If you dont have a meter on your water and pay flat rate yearly look into a heat pump. Alot cheaper on the hydro bill.

I ended up going with a Pioneer 12,000 btu 230v. This thing is pretty sweet. Had it installed and setup a couple days ago and its running great. Its so nice to have the room SET and STAY one temp constantly. So far I would recommend it.

Mini splits are getting cheaper but I haven't really seen the retailers passing the lower prices along. I can get a Mirage 12,000 BTU 15 SEER here local on the border for $400. It is a Mexican unit but the same as what they sell here in the US. Have 4 Mirage units in my house and love them. I know the local seller has a listing on fleabay

The parts warranty might make me a little worried. Only 1 year. Replacements probably would be cheap since the unit is cheap, but then you have to service it and its down while it's broken. The pioneer I got also is a dehumidifier while the mirage is not.

Mini splits have been used around the world for many more years than we have ever seen them here in the states with Mexico being one of them. Most reputable manufacturers use the same compressors across the brands and Mirage has been around those areas a long time. I wouldn't have mentioned the brand unless I know first hand how the quality is and I have had no issues and are very impressed with what I have. I have 4 in my house, 2 in my office and have gotten many more for my contractor to install locally. I also know the local distributor is selling well over 1,000/month and that has been going on for a few years now.

I'm not trying to promote the brand but if you look at the components there are other brands besides LG & Mitsubishi that can save you money and have the same compressors.

Also, as far as I have seen unless you pay a licensed HVAC contractor to install your mini split you void the warranty. Most of the time that can be as much as the unit itself for something that is really simple to install. I believe that LG even requires the HVAC professional to have completed the LG course for the unit to be covered. Read the fine print before you swear by their warranties.

Ya if you have used them and know about them then that trumps whatever youll read about them. Thats awesome they work great. I will look into them next time in the future.
The one I see on amazon requires an HVAC professional install or it voids the warranty though. Did you get your mirages with warranty without having to have a professional install?

We did it ourselves and had one issue. When we shortened the copper lines on one unit we didn't get the flare right on the 1/4" line. It blew off as we were walking away from the unit after we opened the valves to charge the system. Other than that I haven't had any issue other than getting the drain lines right. You have to pay attention to get the drains at the right height and little errors can make a wet mess. 2 of my units have condensate pumps installed on them ($100) but they work great. If you are putting them on an outside wall the install is really simple. You don't even have to cut the supplied copper lines, just roll up the extra and lay them on their sides. Don't stand them vertical according to what I have read. We pull a vacuum but you don't even have to do that if you don't want to. Since we were installing enough units I purchased all of the equipment to do it right and didn't scrimp on the quality of the equipment. But again I will say that after installing over 10 units I would install one without any of the equipment and feel safe doing it.

I also went with 220v vs 110v, installed them on a breaker and they pull 4 amps. Really efficient units.
