Mono Tubs, Help...

I have done monotubs in the past and it seemed to work well for me but I still had problems and could probably do a better job. Last time, I used cow manure and straw that I pasteurized to 180F for a couple of hours. This time, I found fresh goat manure. I know to find the dry stuff and not wet manure. Also, last time that I made my fruiting boxes, I didnt have breath holes and I plan on making them this time. Let me see if I can find some pics.

No holes:

Maybe I should back up a little. I have jars of rye grain that are colonized and ready to rock, easy part. I have always had trouble fruiting them out. I had mixed results and I had a few good grows, I am just trying to eliminate the "bad" grows... I think that one of my major problems was that I was trying to grow the mushrooms next to my pot. It was fine when I was doing hydro, but I switched to making compost. A couple of years have passed and I moved all of my plants out to my garage and my rooms have brand new hardwood floors now(in my house). I just want to know how other people are doing this nowdays. I can probably get by alright, but I am trying to figure out my mistakes before I make them again... Thanks!

@ANC I saw that in another post, you were talking about "mycelium piss" and that has been a reoccurring problem for me. I would make monotubs with manure/staw substrate but I had nothing under it. After the first flush, I would find mushrooms trying to grow on the bottom and that yellow looking water.

I am just trying to be clear on my method here. I use rye grain to start the jars, then pasturize the straw, manure, and food grade hydrated lime. I use an electric burner to heat up a big pot and I would add the hydrated lime to the water before I add anything else. Then, I would mix my manure and straw into a pillow case and heat it for 2hrs @ 160-180F. I would then let the pillow case hang dry until it is cool. Then, I would mix the manure and the rye together in the tub.

The puss is from metabolizing the sub. Pretty sure it's warm temperature induced. To prevent side pin, ppl skuff the bottom below the bins holes on the outside and spray paint black. Or just wrap opaque tape around the bottom.. That's quite the operation you had going! Just cubes? Any pans?

I was/am focusing on cubensis only. Really, I would like to start getting strain isolation with agar. I had a little change in plans also, I am using rabbit maure/alfalfa hay because that is what I use for my compost. I know that alfalfa hay is probably not ideal, but I am hoping that it will be good enough for now.

Yeah man, I have 6 jars ready of Penis Envy, Treasure Coast, Brazil, and B+... I am going to grain-to-grain with the Brazil and B+(2jars) and fruit out the rest. I have 55qt totes with "AirLock" lids and I am in the middle of cleaning out my room. I took a break for some coffee but sanitizing the room is next. I have my hay/manure outside on an electric burner and I use a pillow case for a sock/strainer and hang dry it to let it cool... Excited!!!

Ohhh, that picture. That's not mine man, I found that on the internet.. I did have about 6-8 of them going at one time though.. Also, FAE=Fresh Air Exchange... I didnt have holes in my totes last time, or a hydrometer. I am hoping to get atleast a mid-level grow this time around. I know shit will not start popping until I isolate a strain.

Again, not my pic...

yea im working on my agar skills now. im using baby food sized ball jars as petri dishes with micropore tape vents. LC is on the agenda when the plates are full. Im running treasure coast cubes, pan cyan goliath, ps cyan /shiitake for outdoors, and huautla cubes. all indoor strains are half pint jars in an automatic SGFC.
