Montreal’s First Marijuana Clinic Opens Downtown On Amherst Street

Montreal loves its marijuana, a fact no one can deny. A pretty lax attitude on pot smoking runs throughout the entire city, which is why you can find a random citizen liberally smoking a j on St. Catherine at any time of day. Cementing Montreal’s role as a cannabis-friendly city is a new, and more formal, addition to the city’s marijuana culture: Santé Cannabis, Quebec’s first marijuana clinic, reports Journal Metro.

Set to officially open today, Santé Cannabis is a doctor-run clinic focusing on the many medical uses of marijuana. Located on Amherst just below St. Catherine (map), the clinic is solely for citizens sanctioned by the government to utilize medical marijuana under the Marijuana for Medical Purposes Regulations, so no, you can’t just pop in and buy some bud.

Actually, no marijuana is actually sold on the premises. Instead, the clinic and its physicians guide patients to use the proper strain of weed, and format (e.g. edibles vs. vaping) to alleviate their illness, with patients needing to grab off of government licensed growers. Cooking classes are even planned to take place on-site, to teach people how to bake and cook with weed, an ingredient that is quite versatilewhen fused with cuisine.

If you do suffer from an illness requiring the use of medical marijuana (ADHD, glaucoma, chronic pain, etc.) and would like to use the services offered at Santé Cannabis, you’ll need to be refered by a physician. Luckily, Santé Cannabis makes it easy, letting you download a form straight from their website.

A medical marijuana clinic in Montreal is a big deal, though we can’t forget the fact that the city has been home to compassion centers, like the Montreal Compassion Centre, for many years. Both seem to provide the same services (helping people choose strains, edibles, etc.) and the only striking difference we can see is that Santé Cannabis has licensed physicians on-staff (2 for now, says CJAD), hence the “clinic” title.

More is always better when it comes to marijuana, however, so Santé Cannabis is definitely a welcome addition to the city’s cannabis culture. Having legit doctors working there may also dispel some of the negative stereotypes associated with marijuana use, because if a doctor recommends it, who are the stuffy weed-haters to say it’s bad? And if we change their minds, maybe it won’t be too long ’til cannabis is legal in the province.

about time, Michigan has a bunch of places that have doctors on staff ready to help those who could benefit from marijuana. I don't understand whats stopping the doctors in Canada--it must be easier to lose ones medical license or something in Canada. Michigan must have over a thousand doctors working at clinics throughout the state in most every county.

Something has to be different. Just in the state of Michigan around 130,000 people are allowed to use MM.

The government gave the keys to the gate to the doctors only the doctors told the government they wanted nothing to do with it...but they gave it to them anyway. Then the Colleges decided they would start pulling doctors's licenses if they prescribed I believe it was large scripts. The government thinks that everyone should only need 3-5g/d...anyone over that is obviously selling to the street ( sarcasm).

The colleges can pull doctor licensees, wow

I know in Ontario its much-much easier to lose ones drivers licenses vs here in Michigan. The freaken cops can take ones licenses away on the spot without a court hearing for just speeding-even squealing the tires. Some US states are pretty strict as well but not Michigan.

I got no issues with 3--5 grams a day, that amount can last me maybe a week but I learned long ago how to make weed last longer due to lack of funds and supply

Canada is cooler with allowing the mail carriers to deliver marijuana, I gotta drive too long to get some bud or have it personally deliver to me in person by a caregiver and then I can't buy weed myself at a weed shop.

The medical clinic that approved me is very strick on not using any other pain medicines like that oxyconide junk. Many people get hooked on that junk and then they need to come clean before they get a MM license from them, no problem for me since I never tried it and was using weed for too long without a card. It was only when my one guy ran out and wasn't getting anymore that I finally seek help from a doctor (I later found out he also got hooked on pain pills and heroin and decided weed wasn't good enough for him--dumb ass)

I call him a dumb ass cause he doesn't have cancer or something that would cause him to really need some powerful pain pills, I can understand some people do need to use both but many people, IMO can get by just fine on weed only if they give it a chance to work. Canada does seem to be way more limited on who can legally use weed and yes I know many of you people might use both, so I'm not calling everybody who uses pain pills dumb asses.

I would need 3x my current script to give up all the pills I need currently. I try my best but without growing it I can't afford that much currently.
