playing music from a music box wont do anything, if you sing it helps because you produce co2 but that's about it...
I do not believe you can say this with 100% certainty sir, if you do not believe it will help you don't have to but my girls would be sad without something besides fan noises ;)

I play Tom Petty. I think they hate it so much they try to cover their ears with crystals.
On a serious note. I like to think they react to music vibrations the way they would react to a thunderstorm coming and then I water them.
 
Very interesting. Thought i was the only one. I play rain forest sounds to my plants. And some easy jazz occasionally as well. Mostly do it to add to a comfortable atmosphere for myself but i do like to think maybey it has a positive affect in some way on the plants. No way to know i guess but why not...
