My DIY DWC system AK 48

I bought a Waterfarm system last week and love it, super nice kit to get started.

My problem was I have one known AK 48 fem seed that I germinated. I have 3 seeds I got from a buddy that came from a club clone that went hermie on him.

I didn't want to plant them all in the Waterfarm just in case the unknowns are male.

I decided to build a one plant unit of my own for her. Went to the Home Depot and bought this

Paint $4.99
Plastic container $1.88
6" pot liner 11 cents

Traced a circle for the cut, used my Dremel to cut the hole

Checked the fit, the hole rough but it works.

After a lot of paint. I used my flashlight to see how much light was getting through after each cote, I used the whole can.

I let it dry for a day then cleaned it good.

Poked holes in the pot liner and filled with rinsed hydroton

Went with the big air pump for a 60 gallon tank. You can get cheaper ones but I love how quiet the Tetra's are.

Air pump $30

Bought the round air stone as its perfect for this one pot set up

Air stone $4.99, had some tubing left over that will cost around $3

Everything looks good so I emptied the tub for another cleaning.

Soaked the air stone and a cube in water ph'd at 5.4

I use this Brita filter pitcher to clean out my tap water. Tap comes out 7.7 give or take. Comes out of the pitcher at 6.1-6.2 every time.

Filled the tub and checked ph

Pulled the AK out of the Waterfarm, nice tap root

Since I am starting a seedling I need to have the water level a little higher to keep the cube damp until she grows longer roots. Checked the level, seems to be good.

Now in her new home

For a little under $50 I think it was worth it. The res holds two gallons, should be plenty for this girl. I like the shape of the container too, I am going to LST this plant so it gives me a good platform to work with.

What kind of light? 2 gallons may be a little on the small side if your using anything but flouros

I think 2 gallons is plenty. The Stealth Hydro kit is 6 gallons for 6 plants, that's only 1 gallon per plant. For lights I am using 6500k 23w cfl's, but will switch to my 250w hps for flower.

westco, thanks. Do you have a thread on your grow. I would love to see more AK pics.

I will posting progress on this thread:https://www.rollitup.org/dwc-bubbleponics/283883-first-try-w-o-soil.html

No... no grow journal. This is 2 weeks ago - they are about 4.5 weeks old - still in veg under a 400w mh. They are DWC by now (no drip pump). I made a lot of mistakes - mainly over feeding. I have chucked the side of the Advanced Nut bottle instructions... so they are a bit stunted. Looking forward to watching your grow....

Nice job yarddog35, I also made a 1 plant set up just like yours it holds an ak48 that was too small to stay with the others(they turned male anyhow)so my 1 plant on his own is doing great.I think I would use your 250 hps for vegging with the cfls more light more better!I've got my 1 plant under a 150 hps and a few 6500 cfls...good luck I still have 1 good ak48 about 3 wks into flowering and its looking good can't wait to spark her up...
