My Ideal Grow, Finally

So I have always wanted to grow indoors, for years but never wanted to do it half assed. So I waited and saved and now I have just started...

4 auto northern lights (pyramid seeds)
1 auto Lennon (pyramid seeds)
3 Sweet Afghani Delicious (pyramid seeds and henceforth called S.A.D)

My grow tent is a 24" x 48" x 60" mylar tent with 5 exhaust/intake ports

My equipment is...

1 400 watt hps/mh digital ballast
1 cool tube exhausted with a 6" inline duct fan
1 400 watt mh and 1 400 watt hps bulbs
Heating pad for the seeds
8 3 gallon pots for the mature plants
8 solo cups for germ/seedlings
1 24" long carbon air scrubber to be attached to the exhaust line
1 1.5 cf of fox farms happy frog
1 1.5 cf of fox farms ocean forest
1 liter of fox farms big bloom
1 60 watt equivalent cfl with reflector for seedlings (one fat ass bulb)

So far I have everything rigged up except for the 400 watt and the filter, they should arrive tomorrow.
I planted my beans in solo cups (with holes punched for drainage) with ff happy frog. Water till saturation using non-chlorinated water and handled beans using tweezers. Seeds were sown about 1/4" below the surface. I have been sprinkling with a dash of water once daily. The cfl is about 6 inches above the cups and they sit on a heating pad that I have turned on for about 4 hours a day. It has been 48 hours and no sign yet of any seedlings although I am optimistic. RH: 30% T: 70-80 farenheight. Should I have any reason to think they won't emerge? And how long should I wait?

Will keep y'all posted and can post photos. I think you guys/gals would like the way it's hidden.

If you did it right, you should expect your first sprouts to pop up in about 24-48 hours. It can happen in a few hours so it can surprise you. It's a bad idea to go poking around in the soil. Just be patient. It sounds like you've got a legit setup. You didn't mention anything about a ph tester, which I omitted and now regret. Good luck. Take some pics.

hey!

glad to see some response :)
I didn't leave the seeds in water or a paper towel, I just popped them straight into the soil. I read that there is less risk of shock and such if you germ au natural. Should they still have popped already? I checked again, nothing after 50 hrs. Sprinkled a few drops of distilled water. I am going to be buying jugs of it from CVS until I can get a good ph testing and adjustment kit. I burned through the remainder of my budget with the light kit I just ordered. I popped a little space heater in my room to bring the ambient T up.

Will post pics tomorrow.

Thank you guys

I germ for 24 hours in water then pop them in the soil. I usually get my first seedlings around 3-1/2 to 4 days from start. If you have no seedling after a week spray water to rinse of some soil repeatedly to look for seed leaves.

Thanks chodesman.

I just had a nightmare about getting busted. I am awake now trying to figure out if I did anything to screw myself already. Can anyone following this check out my post in the "legal edge" section of forums and let me know if I should be worried. Its keeping me up at night, literally.

Regards

Hey, update...

3 days after putting seeds under soil and still nothing. Still optimistic though. Put a little space heater in the room and it's nice and toasty in there now. Still misting with distilled water about once every 18 hrs.

About the security concerns, I hired my best friend to run counter intelligence and tell everyone I got spooked and shut it down. So I can sleep a little easier, still in damage control though.

Don't tell anyone you're growing. The fact that your friend knows and supposedly others as well is sketchy. I believe Lao Tzu said it best:

"all streams flow to the sea because it is lower than they are. humility gives it its power."

3 week Update :bigjoint:

So its been a while, been busy with work.

7 out of the 8 autos are doing well. One died when I was away for 2 days. All are females and have started sprouting little clusters of white pistils. Temps and humidity are all good. I have been leaving the 400w MH on for 20hrs a day but the humidity rises at night and causes the scrubber to malfunction so I am going to switch back to 24/0.

4 plants are 10 inches tall and the others are about 6. The shorter plants are much bushier and have larger leaves. I transplanted to 2.5 gal pots of Happy Frog/Ocean Forest soil and have been watering every third day. I am introducing them to nutrients; 1 gallon of 1:30 urine/water and 1 gallon of about a 2 teaspoons of FF Big Bloom every watering (distributed across all 7 plants.

When should I switch to my HPS bulb? and what do you guys think of the pics?
