New beginnings..

My parents just hit retirement age and it has been great having them able to travel up more often to see the grandkids. My dad is a retired pipe-fitter and a pretty straight-laced guy when it comes to alcohol or anything else. He might have a glass or wine or beer on a rare occasion. I wasn't sure what my folks would make of my garden addition now that the rules have changed in Maine. Well wouldn't you know that my dad, since retirement, has gotten back into some things he hasn't been able to do in a while. Long story short there were lots of drug tests for his work and he gave up smoking pot when he was an apprentice over 40 years ago. When they left last Sunday I send him home with a 1/2 ounce to share with a few of his friends who are also recently retired. We spent a lot of time in the basement looking at the plants in the tent. My dad helped me feed a couple times over the week that they were here.

When we were talking about the drawbacks of the tent he suggested that I frame out a door and close off the space the that I was using for the tents- tent footprints of 4'x4 and 4'x8. So we went to home depot and bought a door and some framing material. It was a pain in the ass to move everything and take down the tents. This is my second grow and the plants were about 27 days into flower when we started tearing everything down so I was worried that I would stress them.

The new room is 12'x18, has 2 dedicated electrical circuits right in the room and access to the running water via the well tank. We painted the cement walls with 3 coats with kilz flat white primer and framed in the doorway. Everything came out looking pretty good and it was a really fun project to do with my dad.

I went from using 5 different amazon LED's to using a 1k HPS lamp. Im going to keep a couple of the LED's for vegging.

So far the room is been a major upgrade. I made some platforms on casters so I can move the plants around without actually picking them up. It has been so nice just to be able to walk around the plants and have easy access during feedings. Well worth it, and like I said, was a pretty cool thing to do with my dad.

It will be interesting to see what the flowers end up looking like with a halftime switch in terms of lighting. It seems like they are already happier under the HPS light.
