New Grower - Lighting Question

Ok.... I am a new grower and this is my first post...

I am going to grow four plants and planning to use a HPS setup after all the research I have done here on the site. I have read that it may be beneficial to do MH for Veg and HPS for Flowering but I do not want to put that much money into a first grow.

I have gone to Lowe's, Home Depot, as well as called several nurseries in the area. I cannot find any light fixtures for a 250-400W HPS system.

My questions are:

1. How big a grow area is needed for 4 plants?

2. What wattage should I buy?

3. What site(Not Ebay) is the best for purchasing these light systems(reliable and private)?

4. What is the best brand HPS setup I can buy for a reasonable price?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You have to look at this in another way, you need another point of view over this .

1. How big a grow area is needed for 4 plants?

This depends : on what strains will you grow, how big will you want them to be .

I think the best question is what grow space do you have ?
If you have plenty, then you should think about how much electricity will you be able to spent .
You the electricity is not a problem, and you have space and if you want big strong plants, THEN I would suggest you get BIG BIG pots, like 40-50 L per pot .
That is very important because as big as the roots and plants are, the bigger and heavyer the buds will be at the end .
SO, if you will go in this direction you will also need a 250 W Metal Halid light for vegetation and (but not mandatory) you will need another 250 W High Pressium Sodium Lamp for flowering (you will need it if you want to have the best buds out there, right ?! ) .

For The Lighting shop, well I think there are a lot of good shops on the net man, just look for hydroponics shops, they all tend to have lights and stuff.
