I buy my RO from the machine up the road. .20 a gallon. I Love RO, Just hate the waste it creates. Mine tests @ 17ppm. When they change the filters I see it hit 3.

roots were coming out the rapid rooter so it was time to move into the 2 gallon smart pots with coco. 20170923_154951_noexif.jpg
20170923_154951_noexif.jpg this guy is my runt. it tried to commit suicide when it popped in the seed. it cut itself almost completely in half. if you look closely, you can see that it is finally starting to grow roots off of the stem.

question: I read that coco needs to be watered 2-3 times a day but mine always stays damp in the center as is evident in the last picture. that picture was yesterday evening when I got home and I had watered them in the morning with 1 cup of RO water each before work about 10-11 hours earlier. obviously the sides are dried out but the center is still really wet. they are also still in their rapid rooter plugs that really hold moisture as well. I understand that once they get larger I will have to make sure to get the whole thing wet when watering to reach all the roots. Last night before bed I watered with 1 cup of nute mixture each and felt the bottom of the pots. it had just started to drip a little bit. Do I not need to feed/water them twice a day while they are still this little? Thank you in advance.

thanks fellas. should I alternate watering with RO and nutes? Or go with nutes every time?

one other question. I cut the top off of an 18 gallon tote to use for my tray. currently it is as tall as the top of the smart pots. should I probably cut it down another 6 inches or so so the fan will actually blow on the pots as well to aid in drying the coco? If its confusing as to how I cut it, I can get a better picture tonight.

Looking good! Getting off to a good start., don't stress the small stuff. Only thing I would say is to utilize the whole pot, you're already in only 2 gal. Fill them to the top for more root mass. More roots more buds. Roots are definitely gonna come out the bottom. Put them on a crate or something to allow airflow to the bottom for good air pruning. Keep it up! You're doing fine.

The girls swaying in the wind will help them build strong stems. Keep them in the airflow. Coco dries quick and doesn't retain a lot of nutes. Wouldn't worry about that too much

I will add some more coco to the top. I am trying to keep it from being too messy when I move stuff around, but looking at the pics again today, there definitely appears to be more room for coco. I habe the pots sitting up on cheap Tupperware bowls with holes drilled in them for drainage. so, on the watering, let them dry more and water with the nute mixture every time? no need to water with just water? unless of course a problem pops up.
