new guy errors

Hi all, im on my first grow cant tell if my autos are starting to flower or not im using a 150w led bio buzz nutes and trying a 12/12 as they have pistils and thats all??? So trying to force flowering, have been growing well so far about 2-3 ft

If that's an auto, put it back on 18/6 or 20/4. It doesn't need 12/12, you're just cutting down on potential growth time. I go 12/12 for the last week or so, seems to help ripening, but I have nothing to back that up, just personal observations.

I started my autos on 24/7 then switched to 20/4 then 6/2 then to 18/6. Then I split my autos between 2 tents. One tent at 18/6 for the shorter plants. The too tall autos (40") at 12/12 with my photoperiods. The plants with 18/6 light have frostier and fuller buds.

The button buds are getting fatter slowly but the pistils are changing colour amber brown ??? Any further advice please?

Those little ones at the stem junctions won't grow into buds. They die off and that's it for them. It's the ones further up on the branches or tips that form the flower clusters called buds then bunches of buds form colas.

How old are the plants? True autos will start showing buds forming by 6 weeks at the latest so they may need 12/12 or 14/10 to flower well if they aren't a stabilized strain.

They have only started growing properly lately, things is its hard to know when they started flowering? I planted the seeds 10/12/16.. They are growing fastly now on 18/6 and are all about 2.5 ft each

There's a lot of hurry up and wait when you grow pot alright.

Updates lots more pistils and white flowering showing finally (i think?) given the size of the plants i decided to 12/12 light cycle on red spec Led

Any more guidance please?

What does it mean... "stabilized strain"? Is it that an unstable strain has many phenotypes? Thanks.

Oh and boo on poison Monsanto tomatoes. .. insert rant ...

Stabilized seeds are from strains that have been bred thru many generations to produce seeds that will all sprout with nearly identical plants. Same way wheat and other crops have been bred for centuries for more uniformity and better growth with higher yields.

When you first cross two strains you get F1 seeds that will vary a lot. About half will be a good mix of both parents tho not homogeneous as there will be variations in them. The other two quarters will more resemble one parent or the other.

Then you start selecting the traits you want and back breeding and re-crossing the plants until you get ones that you consider the best. The whole process can take a decade where most seeds sold today are maybe F3s and many are just F1s yet sold for the same price as ones that someone has dedicated a good portion of their life to perfecting.

It's commonly known as selective breeding. The same method used to make a pekinese out of a wolf.

Right flowering in full effect...how far am I from harvesting guys... I have applied all your advice so far with great results
