New Indoor setup

So me and my friend are going to start a small grow for the first time. We are going to start off small for safety and experience reasons so here it is...

we have about 4' under the house where the furnace and water heater are. We believe that if we use 9 CFL's (26 watt ea.) We could grow two plants successfully. We are not looking for a massive yield but at least a couple ounces or so. we will hang three power strips from the top, one on the right of one plant, one in the middle and one on the left of the other plant. We will use three bulb adapters per strip and put three CFL's in each. This will hopefully be enough to grow them, if we start having problems then we will step up the wattage and add more bulbs. Im asking if this is an okay setup or if it is doomed to fail...

P.S: CFL's have equivalent wattages to condesent bulbs, so my math is... (26 watt CFL eq. to 100 watt Con. 100x80 lpw=8000 lumens per square foot so... 8000 lumens x 9 bulbs= 72,000 lumens per square foot? please tell me if im wrong

grrr, my budget doesn't have those in mind lol, but i did come across an industrial sized flouecent, im starting to think that i sohuld just get some tubes instead, are those a bit cheaper and more efficient or no? i love this site to death but i have always had some problems with lighting. im planning on planting four plants (just so im sure i get a few females) and possibly end up with two or three in the end. what would you recommend for lighting of these plants (no i cannot get my hands on ANY kind of MH or HPS) so im stuck with flourecents.

*update* the industrial sized flouro is a 60 watt and has an industrial plug thingy, so i can screw it into any old socket

i hate lights, plant should evolve to grow in the dark...

also, plants need at least 72000-80000 lumens correct?

its gonna be a pain in the ass going back and forth checking on them and what not. imho i dont think under a house would be a good idea due to heat (fire) and staleness/mold

under the house is actually extrodinarily clean, there are a bit of spiders but in the animal kingdom, they are my friend so cool for them, i checked the temp and its stays at a steady 75-80 degrees the setup hasent been setup becasue i want to make sure i get the okay from all you proz out there lol, but if you want ill throw some picks up and start a grow journal soon. plus going back and forth wont be a problem because of the way you cna enter, its in a closet that filled with stuff but we made it so we can easily move a few things around and slip in and out without much of a mess. i also hope to put timers down there so i only have to go down to water and see if they are doing okay in the climate down there if not we have another spot but dont want to use that unless we have to (room, getting caught, ect...)

You need to do a LOT more reading before you begin, no offense. First of all, where did you get the fact that the plants need 80,000 lumens? The sun gives off 10,000 lumens sq/ft. Also, your math in your original post is horribly wrong. Just follow this math a little. You will be using 9 bulbs for vegging, and will undoubtedly need to buy more for flowering, since they use different spectrums. So here is some math:

- 9 bulbs running at 26 watts each = 234 watts
- 9 bulbs costs around $3.25 + 3 power strips which cost $6 each + the adapters which cost say $1.50 each = $60.75 This of course is before you HAVE to buy even more bulbs for flowering, running at 2700K instead of 6500k. So you can probably add another 30-40 dollars on top of this as well as increase the watts used to run the whole setup.
- 9 bulbs running at 1600 lumens each = 14400 lumens
- Say your space is 4 sq ft, which is a 2ft by 2ft space, you will be running around 3600 lumens/sq ft, which is under the minimum of 5000 lumens a square ft, but would still work.

OR

Buy 1 250w HPS which would cost around $135 shipped to you, runs 33,000 lumens and uses around the same amount of energy that you would be using with your "efficient" CFL's. You would be running 8250 lumens/sq ft, which would increase your yields a SHIT TON over CFLs and make the buds dense.

You probably wont decide to go with the HPS, even though its a MUCH better idea, as CFL's are a waste of time unless you are trying to grow in a teacup, but seriously, before you dive in, you need to do a TON more reading.

i have been reading about how to grow from THIS site for a long time now. CFL'S DO have a EQUIVALENT wattage to regular bulbs. i did not know if this meant that a 26w CFL should be considered as a 100 watt or just a 26 watt. thank you that has now been cleared up for me. also, buying ANYTHING over the net is stupid. you get jacked, pieces are missing most of the time, its broken, or something else comes in the mail. iv tried before and got jacked $150 so i gave up. now Im trying again, and as i said in my first grow..." Yield does not matter to me, just as long as it grows" im very sry that i did not get my math right, happens to everyone all the time...i asked for help on a setup for lighting, apparently CFL'S are not cutting it... so i have decided to go with the tubes, what kind should i get and at what wattages... thank you.

Try shrooms.. they can grow in the dark.
