Most cannabis strains will develop visible flowers (male and female plants both) from the stress of wanting to flower, but i've haven't seen a male go into full blown flower mode without cutting the light back. I've kept males around for a year or so in the veg room without any problems.
I just had one that started spreading pollen, while under 20/4, the strain has been herming a lot.

I had a chem's sister male that I had give the chop to last week. No matter what light schedule, he threw out flowers. It was a pain in the ass because I was trying to save him. I guess it probably would not have been a great male for breeding since it just autoflowered on me and would not revert back to veg.
