Im also interested in this as an aluminum worker i have lots of different profiles of aluminum but no actal heatsink
Don't see why the profiles wouldn't work, ally is good for heat conduction and, obviously depending on the size and shape of the profile, gives you a decent surface area exposed to the air.

It's the two factors you want, thermal conductivity and surface area. A "U" channel obviously has more exposed surface are than a square channel, hence why heatsinks are finned and not a square block, but in my experience strips don't run THAT hot so a square channel should be able to dissipate the heat with ease thanks to 3 sides being exposed to the air (not including any other factors such as fans blowing air around in your room/tent).

Is it not because 2700-3500K gives the best balance between "blue" and "red" wavelengths so you can use the one light source all the way from seedling to harvest?

That's what I've seen others say anyway, it's the compromise to save changing things as you switch from veg to flower
I was going to go with 3500

Was wondering why he prefers the 3000

Hey man im planning a small f strip build my self

Is there any links i can read about why 3000 is the best choice.

Im getting ready to order everything per ledgardener 4x4 4dual f strip. W the 480 a driver

But i havent decided on a color

Any help would be much appreciated
Go with EB strips... Randomblame just claculated it here: https://www.rollitup.org/t/bridgelux-eb-series-build.928676/page-94#post-14050509. For the same money, you get same efficiency, but 3x more diods, and 2x more spread (4x more compared to the double rows).

Yeah I know, bulk pricing seems to make it look different, but then you need like more than 50x 4ft strips.

The only other reason is, if you want to go >190 lm/w with your system. Do yo?

EB Gen2 are compareable to F-series now!

I was chatting to a guy on ledgardener.com about what i wanted to do

I went with the f series because i thought the doubles would take up less "main" light from my hps.

Basically since i use my hps for heat in the winter i was going to build a 4 double strip setup for supplemental lighting.
Then if i like the results
I might build a full array for summer months

I have plenty of time for the build though as i want to finish this run with one light so i have a "baseline"

Cause 4 strips is spendy at 200

I was figuring on .needing at least 16 for a full array for my area roughly 8x8 so if the ebs can do the same for cheaper im down but would need more drivers?

EB Series Gen2 3000K

QER=4.84 µmol/J
LER=331.66 lm/W
= 2.55 µmol/J

F-Series Gen3 3000K
QER=4.86 µmol/J
LER=321.60 lm/W
= 2.54 µmol/J

25.8W * 2.54 µmol/J / 14.48$ = 4.53 µmol/$

Example 2ft for bulk prcining...

1x F = 4.53 µmol/$
2x EB = 4.66 µmol/$

10x F = 4.72 µmol/$
25x EB = 4.66 µmol/$

25x F = 6.08 µmol/$
50x EB = 4.83 µmol/$

50x F = 6.08 µmol/$
100x EB = 4.91 µmol/$

@Cold$moke aslong you need less than 50x 2ft EB strips I would stay definitely with Bridgelux. Bulk prcining will give you a nice diacount on the F-series, when you buy more than 25 strips. So it‘s cheaper to buy F-series, but EB strips will still have the advantage of more diffusity (so more efficient light use).

Ugh tough choice as its hard to explain what i want to do

So how many 4foot ebs does it take to equal 1 double f strip 3500K: SI-B8UZ91B20WW

Because i was hoping the less is more approach would work here for want im wanting.

I would want like 16 to 24 or so double f strips for my whole room (not what i want yet but just for figuring)

How many 4 ft ebs would it take to get a 8x8 up to around 30to40w?

Same efficiency means same price. You can do the same light (100W) with 2 EB strips (4ft) 30$, but efficiency will drop below 170 lm/W.

Maybe it‘s easier for you to handle 4x F strips wih the HPS, but as a replacement I would prefer EB strips.

Mabey i can get my feet wet with the f strips then if i build an aray couldnt i mix them as long as i stay on the same drivers for the different brands of light

There are a few: for example to mix the spectrum, with different driver you can light up only the middle of your light (veg time e.g.), and so on.

I could have went with the 2ft, but choosed 1ft. The small strips are more expensive ($/lm).

Ok so the small size really just allows easier customization ? Of size of the array and spectrum

8x8 (2300w).... haha, didn‘t expected that, when you asked for a small project :D

I would take 80 (1100$), or 100 (1300$) strips (+175 lm/w).

It would be cheaper to go with Samsung, but you have only 1/3 of the diods in this case copared to a Bridgelux build.

25x F-series DR = 900$ (+170 lm/w)
50x F-series SR = 1000$ (+175 lm/w)

I prefer 3000°k F-strips because it's the best flowering spectrum and in case of LM561c @wietefras has shown that is has the best YPF performance from available spectrums.
3000°k from LED has more than enough blue(+10%) to keep the plants short and bushy.
IMO it's not needed to mix spectrums if you plan to use the lamp mostly for flowering. For a special veg unit it's another story, here I would probably use a mix of 3000 and 5000°k.

Ok so I'm using a gavita as a heat source and main light its a balanced spectrum but still very hps looking

Would i be silly to throw something lime a 4000 inther to whiten up the color a bit?

This is mainley a flower room but since my veg room is small i veg in the flower room too until its flip time
