I have had one grow before this one, that didn't really smell either. But if you squeezed the buds you can smell lemon, I ditched those genetics. Now I have BD and OG Kush, and am experiencing the same situation. The main stems, when I rub them smell great. but up close the 40 day old buds do not smell up close unless I squeeze them. I don't know what the hell is going on. It gets you high, and the BD has a smell if I touch the buds, but not so much on the OG. I have used fox farms soil in all my grows. That is the only thing that is the same, about my first grow. New nutes, air filter, etc for this second grow.

    Greetings.

Give it time. 40 days is like half way.

    What are temps?
    What are you feeding them?

Between 73-80F. About 50% humidity. The nugs are pretty fat and I am blasting them with 12 band LED lights, with UVB.

I was thinking about adding chitosan to the soil, or terpinator. Just seems like it should smell like the main stem, from what I have read. The blue dream smells much better, but only when I touch the buds.

Add K2SO4 at 1/4tsp at feedings in bloom.....(potassium sulfate) Mg sulfate works well too. You have to make a solution of it though...

    8 TBL Epsom salts
1 1/2 tsp DARK BROWN sugar
    1 gallon RO water
    1 opaque gallon jug

Bring 4 cups of the water to a rolling boil
Add the Epsom and the DBSugar
Boil for ,, oh 3-5 min stirring constantly

Pour the hot liquid into the opaque gallon jug with the other 12 cups RO water already in it and shake well to mix....

10ml per gallon at the flip and increase to 20 at week 3 till done....

    What UVB?

I know several folks that have low to no smell during growth.....It comes in in the cure, just fine.

    How close/strong/type are your lights?

Light burn will cause a lack of smell.

I agree with the Doc. I visited a grow recently that didn't have much smell. But when he opened a jar to twist one up the potheads in the next county stood up and inhaled. Im about sold on the actual appreciable benefit of a good cure. I'm thinking the previous 12 weeks are only to create the raw materials. That cure, its worth a heck of alot.

The cure is the most vital part of any grow that's worth a shit. If yer a scumbag dealer who sells it in sandwich bags and a mullet haircut it doesn't matter.

The first strain was an expirement, the plant grew really big, but didn't smell unless you squeezed or broke open the bud. In veg it reeked, but during the flower stage nothing unless you rubbed the stem or smelled it really close up. Maybe I am expecting too much, this early.
The last strain smelled like lemon, and fruity pebbles, it smoked ok. I ditched it, because I smoked every bit of it, which took a year. I put it back in veg and pulled one more smaller yield. It was big as hell, and looked like an octopus. I pulled the seeds from a baggy, so I just tossed it up to being poor genetics.
I am using Vipar Spectra's but about to do a huge upgrade. I don't think it is the light though, other than maybe not enough UVB, but that is just me guessing.
I read and read, watch industry leading videos etc ok turpines, and came across something today that said it might be the region in which I am growing. Again though, I have no clue.
I am giving them 1tsp epsom, humboldt crystal burst, humboldt snow storm, Advanced G,B,M(yeah I got ripped off, chitosan, hydroguard, raw honey, molasses, sea weed extract, ro water.
My climate is really humid in my region, but the room stays at 50%.
I am using humboldt blue dream genetics. She doesn't grow large but bushy, which is unusual for bd I am told..
The OG is from royal queen, and it is a beast as far as how fast it grows 7ft easily after flower stretch.

Yeah the first time I grew, I hung dried for the first 5 days, then let sit in a card bard box shelf I made for 3 days, from there it went to jars, and one night while burping I got stoned and left the lids off all night and it over dried(lost all outer stickiness). The buds didn't lose their touch smell(fruity pebbles and lemon) and the inside was sticky..
I only grow for myself and close.friends. I don't really like the jar method for drying, needless to say.
I wish dealers here grew their own, shit is sad, so so sad. Expensive, smells old, seeds.

The lights are 16inches away. 3 Vipar 600w 12 band. I have two pointed at a slant toward the girls, and one the the top. I elevated the blue dream on a paint ladder so it's about the same height as the OG.

Epsom salt is helpful as it as sulphur.

Without pics we can't help determine if your plants are healthy or if they've gone long enough.

They still have about another 30-40 days. I need to get a cam, as my cell phone cam is dead, then will post.
The BD buds are really pretty and dense, just started getting few orange hairs on the large top colas. The OG is going to take longer white and hairy.

First half of bloom is never very fragrant. Last couple of weeks is another story if strain and husbandry are reasonably on point.
