Noob homemade soil

My shit is way to hot right now... I just added a little and it burned the crap out of my plants. How long do you usually wait before yours is usable?
you should wait 3-4 weeks after mixing to plant into it. but depending on your recipe... if you added way more than you should have for amendments, it may need to be cut with more base mix.

I just want to add in here that the dry is just as important as the cure. The slower the dry, the more terpenes will be preserved. The longer it takes them to dry out, the better. In an HVAC environment (aka air conditioned/heated homes) it can be difficult to slow down the process enough. I use a box with wire poked through to hang my buds and i seal the box with duct tape (I don't trim or even remove fan leaves). It takes me usually a minimum of 7 days to dry and works great for my environment. Do you have something setup for drying?

So I got a jewelers loupe and man this thing is hard to get a good view. Maybe with some practice it’ll get easier. Also I got the Caliber IV hygrometer in now to just wait til harvest. I’ll get some pics tonight but today is the week 8 so hope within the next two weeks. Buds are starting to swell alittle. Hoping they pack on alittle more mass. Only bad thing is I still think one plant willl be ready and the other one won’t. This is because I had two different mediums to kindve experiment with how hot my soil would be. Crazy the difference In ripening. I wanted to dry in my grow box but if I have to pull one before the other I’ll have to just build something for drying. Either rate I’m excited to see how this harvest turns out. With the lols of things my best one yet.

I can only use those loupe to pre sex, for trichome exam, i just do a macro photo, and hit zoom on the computer, i go blind using the loupe sometimes. somuch easier on screen.
agreed, i take a nice pic with my phone and zoom in and honestly, it gives you a broader view of the whole bud rather than the narrow view of a loupe or microscope. Makes it far easier to tell when a bud is ripe.

Ok then I’m gonna try that route.. my dumbass thought a loupe would work.. I’ll try tonight and post s pic
Plenty of people have great success with the loupe, it's just some of us are a bit more 'special'. ;)

good luck, and dont pull too soon, ive done it, and you really can tell the diff in density in the last 2 weeks.

Thanks.. it seems every time I try to take a photo with the flash it comes out so blurry.. can i just back the camera up far enough to snap a good pic and still get enough zoom to see trichs. I’m in no rush to pull these babies. I want to make sure I get as close to the optimal time to harvest. These pics are from this morning. Yesterday was the start of week 8

Use a second device to apply a softer backlight.. a lamp or second phone. if u clip one little nug every 48 hours from here, and steady it on a table, it will be a lot easier too!

u can also get an app for the phone that acts as a macro lens if you can't find a little one somewhere locally. the pic in my avatar was done with a cell phone and $4 clip on lense from the local mall, it was just in some clothing store by cash register!

Looking great!

Yesterday I watered my babies first thing in the morning like I always do.. got home from work and plant #2 was really yellow. Like I’d say %35 were damn near completely yellow.. I didn’t take any pictures though. Plant 1 I’m not so worried about cause it’s about ready to harvest anyway but plant #2 I think has a few more weeks. So this morning I did not water and so we shall see how they look when I get home. Since it looked like it was “overwatered”. gonna snap some good pics and upload them tonight.

Thinking I’m gonna reap plant #1 tonight/in the morning. I took a small bug off the bottom of the plant and it still had clouady and clear trichs. I took a small leaf from the very top bud and it had quite a bit of Amber. I can’t really get a good ready on top buds on my plant with a loupe. Should I go off the bud from the bottom or the leaf up top? I fee like I’m gettin to the critical point

harvest the tops if they are ready. just make sure you look at the bud and not just the leaf. i've found many times the leaves will show ambers before the buds do.

Well let’s are off for another 30min. I’m gonna do one last attempt to check trichs on tops then make my decision
