Came across an interesting story worth sharing: http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/smartphonepix.asp

Summary: modern digital cameras may be including your location, IP address and other information about you in the image files.

Many modern devices (smart/cellphones, digital cameras, tablets, ...) have cell and/or internet connectivity and GPS chips built in. It is possible that software used to read the camera and save a picture file may also read the GPS and IP address (and maybe your phone # and account information) and include that as meta-data in the file. There is also a technology called 'digital watermarking' that can embed that same information in the image itself so that a computer can read it but the human eye cannot.

Additional data could include your IP address and GPS coordinates. Even if GPS is turned off, a device can use radio towers to get a reasonably accurate location. Converting IP address to physical address is not difficult either now - the information has been gathered and is most certainly available to the authorities.
