Nug Size

Hello All,

Been reading this forum for a while now :) Just kind of curious as to what's your average/normal nug size after 3rd week of flip?

Technically, this is my second grow, my first grow was more of throw it in the dirt and see what's going to happen. After all, its a weed. I was dead wrong.

Thus my second grow is the accumulation of all the information I've gathered from forums like this and researches from the net. All in all, I'm very pleased with this grow, it's way much better, a 100 times better compared to my first grow.

However, my plants just finished 3rd week after flip, my nug size at the top colas are just a little over half an inch thick and about the same size wide.

So just curious if this is normal or is it below normal. I've searched anything that could give me some kind of reference but couldn't find anything in regards to nug sizes during flowering. Would be great to know what to expect (nug size) during flowering.

Thanks for the input

Breathe easy you got plenty of size time, it takes a while just for plant to change gears, you have changed gears by now.

Size of nug this early should not be primary concern right now, just take care of her n she will take care of you.

Unfortunately theres no guide to this as theres too many variables. Breed has tons to do with it... i do two breeds n both are so different from other in every way... how big are your girls, etc...

Dont worry weve all been there and get anxious over things. Just have a puff, take care of her and what will be will be, pay attention to her and learn to listen to what shes telling you. Those things take time, we are all students along a path...

Ty Guys

I guess I'm just super excited to see my first descent cola formed. And yes, the plants are listening, it seems like overnight it just thickened up to an inch as it goes to its 4th week after flip.

One really simple non technical way tto get best nugs your plant can produce.... dont harvest early! Dont harvest off a calendar, read on how to read trichs...taking girls early youll loose both quality and quantity... many buds are cut before they reach their prime, easy to do when ur excited

LOL. This has been my weakness since starting. Both grows, I chopped too soon. It's hard to not smoke it when you can see big fat, dank buds right in front of you.

I wish I could say the same. But, I'm not the most patient person. I'd be better off growing 2-3 plants. And dedicating one to sneaky early cuts. While leaving the other two alone.

Thats a good idea. I know a while back my gg4 i took at 70 instead of the 60 or 65 i did before, wow what a difference....

Yeah. I know... I estimated what I would have gotten from last run if I'd waited. Probably would have been a good 30% or more. Doesn't help I'm limited on space inside. And haven't got an ideal spot outdoors to put anything.

Partial harvesting can fix you taking it early.
Use a scope and only cut nugs off that are ready.
Or if your desprate for some smoke take some lower stuff thats not ready and let the good stuff keep maturing.

Yes! This!

Folks would never pick all the tomatos off a plant once one was ripe, but happens everyday in this world and barely anyone thinks twice of it...

I did full double harvest on a girl once. I lst them to be flat rectangles when veiwed from above. Canopy ended up thicker than planned. Took top 8" over a week, let rest go another month. It never got the density the original tops had but the quality was just as good as not better once in the peace pipe... i wont aim to do it again, but i know i can if i ever mis estimate canopy thickness

Cool, I'll get a scope and watch the trichome and hopefully I have the patient of a saint watching the sexy ladies. If there are other technique to make the nugs bigger, I'm all ear :bigjoint:

Good basic care, right amount of nutes, right enviornment, plenty of light, good genetic and study study study... listen to all sorts of opinions, the only ones i avoid are from people who get pissed at other ppl for not doing it same way they are "cuz therevway works for them therefore its the only way tgat works" folks that narrow minded i figure may be good maybe not in their own deal but lack the understanding necessary to teach others...

Youll read one guys method then a diff one and they may be polar opposites... i always tried to "triangulate" off these taking what wisdom i could from them all to make my starting point for my style...

I like LST myself bens em li,e crazy in veg to create rectanges when veiwed from above to fill my room as efficiently as i can. Now this seems to cut down on individual bud size, but youll have many smaller, but done right nice sized good density buds that total more than just one main cola... i like using multiple lights, my flowering gals get hps, led and t5 uv, and walmart cfls to get any shaded spots my lil 6x6 room is bright with a combined 1700 to 1900 watts equivalent or about 1400 to 1500 actual watts jit is bright. I beleive light quality is more important than the $100 bottle of nutes...

I also like straight coco as it allows for more watering freedom as it doesnt necessitate the extreme dry cycles some mefiums do... if i see she needs something i can give it to her even if i wattered a day before. If i feel i need an along the way flush, i can do it then not needing to wait till its dry to do it...also part of that is i like breathable pots so i use laundry baskets, milk crates or 20 gallon reg pots drilled out like crazy and then lined with weed block fabric. Eliminates root bound worries for most part and makes for nice root structure.

Dont rush in veg either... longer in there better root system shell build, etc. Im ahead on girls right now one in veg iv topped probably 15 times to keep her under control but in a 20 gallon pot shes got room to really fill it w roots... and make big stems

I love big stems i sand em down afterwards and use em to make smoking pieces...

Thats how i see things and theres a million other methods some polar opposite of mine that work great too.

Most of all have fun its so amazing to learn about your girls both in reading and in observation... you need to let it become part of who you are not just something you do. Im a just a small med grow guy but i pour my soul into those few girls, and they in return when finished refresh my soul... its a almost spiritual experience once you get through that early time of anxietty over the how and whys...

Oh and careful of the fascination with nug size. Just like other things, size aint everything... some genetics will not give you monster nugs but may knock you on yours ass... we all love plant porn but at end of day quality oF the smoke outweighs great pics...

Thank you Huckster

Appreciate the concise and thorough advise. I completely agree with you when it comes to using the information's gathered from different sources.

Currently, I only have 2 plants from bag seed (still apprehensive to order seeds by mail), 1 seems to have a sativa dom pheno and the other is more like indica. My grow area is at most 2x4 feet, my 2 plants only occupy just over 2 square feet. Going 4 weeks after flipping.

Though I'm not using a hydro set-up, I'm all the way hand watering rockwool, going to finish it in a 6" cube. I've been monitoring my ph in and out. As for light, I use a 1000 watts equivalent LED (400 true watts).

As for plant training...been selectively defoliating, super cropping (more like stem crushing and no bending) to shorten the internodes and controlling the height (plants are just more or less 2 feet high).

Indica dominant 2 feet high
