Ocean Grown seeds and CMH's

My intro may consist of a few post over the next day or so, running short on time. I'll try to keep this short and sweet.

This will be a grow journal for both my own records and anyone who may be curious about Ocean Grown seeds and/or ceramic metal halides, or simply for anyone who enjoys following them. It is only my second indoor grow so forgive me on any mistakes. All comments are welcome.

The space: 4'x9'10" grow area, inside of a 9'x9'10" room. Grow area is open to the rest of the room, no barriers or tents. Still deciding on going with a sealed room and running co2 or not.

Lighting: As I mentioned I will be running cmh's. My lights will come from growers choice, either the 315w or the 630w double ended. Both would be with the 3000k red enhanced bulbs that they give as one of their options.
I currently am running one 630w de cmh that I got a few weeks ago. I'm waiting on my par meter to arrive tomorrow to take some readings on this light so I can make my decision on either 315s or 630s. So far I'm pretty happy with the light. My only current plant(not an ocean grown) at week 4 from breaking the soil has doubled in size the past week, just by switching it from 250w of blurple to the cmh.

- All will be in Fox Farm soil, starting in 1 gallon pots, transferred to 3 gal.

Genetics:
12- Alien Rift, 12- Malibu Pie. Both from seed and are not feminized seeds.

The other strain(s) I will be running will be 7 reg seeds of a bit of mystery genes. I'm basically just hoping to get lucky and get a keeper out of them. My first grow, I grew around 22 plants of these same genetics. A few phenos/strains were basically garbage. Many were nice and 2 or 3 were absolutely amazing. So dense that it was a bit of a task to even break the bud up, rock hard, both purpled out heavily, raunchy skunk smell, and everyone who tried came back starting each sentence with "Dude, that purple shit", and went on to tell me how fire it was.
The story for these mystery genes is someone I know who was working on an outdoor grow with an "intern"(we'll call him) was running around 5 different strains, I have them written down somewhere which strains, can't remember them all off the top of my head. Well hidden in the middle of the patch was a male bubblisious that the intern missed, I believe it came from Nirvana, like I said I have it written down if anyone wants to know exactly. So yes it pollinated the shit out of everything, I have more seeds of those than I know what to do with but he mixed them all together so I don't know which is which. A couple strains I know for sure that were surrounding females was bubbilicious and blueberry. I want to say grand daddy purp and lemon skunk as well but don't quote me on that.
These phenos, I'm labeling BX, for "bubbilicious cross".

I have one single BX at the moment, one month from breaking soil today.
My Alien Rift have germed a bit quicker than the rest, 8 AR's just hit soil this evening. The rest of the AR have begun sprouting their tap root.
My Malibu Pie are barely poking out there taps but non the less, 11 out of 12 have begun.
Something like 3 out of 6 of the BX have also begun to sprout.

Well anyway I know there's still much more i could go on about but I'm going to wrap it up for now. I hope every one enjoys :peace:

One last thing! Forgive me, my grow room is a mess, I didn't get a chance to clean it this last weekend.

Enjoy:eyesmoke:

I'll post some pics this evening. I accidentally made my thread in the led board lastnight so just getting it switched over now. Pics are posted in the original thread post but I'm working at the moment and don't have time to save the images and wait for them to load to repost them. I will get them up this evening

Sweet man I appreciate that.

So getting back to your last comment when the thread was in led;

As far as penetration, I'm looking for something that will do me solid for about the top two feet. Figuring that I will end up with 3 feet of growth and probably stripping the bottom foot.

You mentioned that you love your 315, but that the penetration was slightly lacking. I don't have much to go off right now because my only plant is maybe only a foot tall at the moment bit of coarse the de 630 is barreling through all the way to the dirt.

How would you describe the pen of the 315? Your thoughts on it being a solid two feet or not? I don't have the ceiling height (another reason I'm leaning toward 315s), so it's important to try making the most of 3 ft or so of overall growth by the end of flowering.

If I go 315s it would be no less than 4, along with my 630 that I'll run regardless since I already have it. Going the route of 3 630s, I'm more worried about less even spread, and of coarse the higher heat output with an already low 7 foot ceiling.

For the canopy you describe I feel you will be fine. So carry on I'm tagged along and watching. I'm really interested to see what your results are comparing the (2) 315's to a 630 :)

Also I didn't answer your question on the previous thread completely, about if I'm planning the se 315s or de 315s.

To answer that I wasn't aware that there are de 315 bulbs, but if you read through my comments when this was in the led section then you saw that this whole time I've been searching in the wrong area for info over a simple mix up.

Now that I discovered the thread "club 315 lec" that should give me plenty to read on.

There's only one company right now (that I know of) doing the DE 315's, I had a hard time deciding between that and another COB kit for my second 3x3 but Amazon made it easy when the distributor jacked the price up after the lights showed up in a few YouTube growers videos.

Growers choice which I believe makes your DE 630 CMH is the only ones I know at the moment with DE 315's. I'm telling you I have researched and continue to research these CMH lights a lot. I do think the future will be figuring out how to get a spectrum like this with LED's but that is just me.

Yeah I'll look into those. And yes my 630 came from Growers Choice. Pretty pumped to get some readings from my par meter. Will be off work in a few hours and it should be in my mail box

I agree with you on that. I was pretty sold on cobs until I heard about these cmh's. Was planning on supplementing extra uv with the cobs then reading about the spectrum and uv with the cmh's i quickly shifted my attention to those. Nothing against cobs, i can guaruntee i will be giving them a shot at some point, just interested to see the quality of buds that everyone talks about from these cmh's first.

I used both CHM@3000k(phillps) and cxb3500k cobs to a nice effect.

if there is any genetic colors in your strain, the CMH will bring them out. I dunno why it does this, we have had the same clones, with the CMH being more appealing in the jar.

they only pull about 1.8 or so amps too, so its really nice for people working form a 15A.

the only thing I found with CMH its hard to get good even coverage. its about 2.5x2.5 I know its says 4x4. so I ended up having to move them around a lot, which just made it too much work to use them with other lights.

if I had like only 16 sf of canopy I think it would be fun to have a all chm room.

Well the package just got here. Dogs were flipping out so I looked out the window and watched the carrier throw the box containing my par meter onto my front step:cuss:

Will update here in a bit.

Well at 33" which is how high I've had the light, I'm only getting a reading of roughly 242.3 umol m2 s1 but the plant seems to be growing atleast an inch on branching per day and stacking nodes about every half inch. Does this ppfd reading sound right?

At about 17" I was getting roughly 671.2 umol m2 s1.

Again it's the 630w de with the 3000k red enhanced bulb out of growers choice. It's pulling closer to 650 or 660 from the wall though I believe. I'll have to double check that again at some point.

Growers house already did the cmh bulbs testing........... Phillips is the one to buy, not shocking as they invented the tech(retrowhite)

Two arcs in one envelope(630 de) has historically shown to have lower output..........2 sun systems 315w(Philips ballast/ bulbs) will easily beat a 630w de in ppf/w & ppfd.

Okay so I checked into the phillips bulbs and sun systems a bit. The sun system lights are pricier than the growers choice. It wouldn't hurt to use the growers choice ballasts and hoods with the phillips bulbs would it?

I know the manufactures say you should use their own bulbs with their ballast and hood but honestly does it make a difference?

Quick update

All 24 ocean grown seeds germinated, only one seed yet to be planted, a malibu pie.
All 6 bubbilicious crosses germed and have been planted.

Some have already broke soil, they're being placed under two 130 watt blurples until they grow a few nodes tall, then I'll place them under the more intense cmh light.

I exchanged my humidifier for the largest one Wal-Mart had (advertises up to 2000 sq ft). It's still struggling to bring the humidity up for under the 630, currently 56%. Rh was 47% until I just misted the walls.
The leds area is sitting at 61%. I'd like anywhere from 60% to 65% rh at this point of the grow.

Started lst'ing BX-1
Note- I accidently took the two main tops too far when supercropping. One died a couple days ago and I just pulled thebother off now because of slow stunted growth.
It will work out anyway because this one will have to veg atleast another month to month and a half for the others to become mature.

Should be interesting.

RH-66%
Temp-79f

I finally have control of my environment, 3 humidifiers later lmao atleast they are low wattage, and I think it's the smallest one of all that's actually doing the trick. Only difference between it and the other two is it's a misting version. The bigger ones kick on when humidity drops below 60% and shuts off when it reaches above 65%. Also got my ac running, it kicks on and off to keep temps between 77 and 79 during lights on:smile: haven't had to run my DeHu yet during lights off, although I will probably get a new bigger one and set it to kick on at 70% or above(dark hours) and use my little one for my drying tent.

I also hooked up a new intake system with a 6 inch inline and two separate duct works coming from it with an adjustable register vent on the two ends :hump:

I supercroppered my BX#1 and accidentally broke them too far. One top died and the other I decided to rip off because of stunted growth. Also just tied her branches down a bit ago to bush it out as much as possible. I'll have some fun with her in the next month or so that I have to wait on the others to mature 8)

10 out of 12 Alien rifts have sprouted, the other two I found just below the surface and they looked a bit dried out, I misted the soil well when I found them(i water my seedlings with amister, usually daily until they have sprouted) I'll know by tomorrow ifthey're goners or not.

Malibu pies and BX took a bit longer to germ. I currently have 4 MP that have sprouted and 2 BX. MP#7 is probably a goner. I accidently knocked over my fan trying to hang up my new intake and the back of it landed right in #7s pot and compacted the soil an inch or two. We'll see if it sprouts though.
So yeah that's the scoop :peace:

Also posting month of September calendar for records. Note: I didn't get too nitty gritty with writing down each and every detail
