odor control

besides a carbon filter what can be done for controlling the odor for five plants.

You could try getting an air purfiler (however you spell that). I currently have one in my grow box and only grow about 6plants up to 8"tall and it keeps the small gone. I use a cheap $21 Walmart air purillefer, it has a HEAPA Filter with Arm and Hammer Oder control, and its only on with the lights. It keeps the smell down to nothing so it should be pretty good for you. I also use it on the lower of two (low/high) air blowing/sucking settings. So using iton the higher setting might be better if you have a stronger order. Also you could use this with some air smell stuff like a Glade plug in.
