Legislatively established ages of consent as an iron clad absolute, have the possibility of imposing restrictions on people who are capable of self determining. Further legislatively established ages of consent vary from place to place which makes them even more subjective and arbitrary.

You say you would not do it , but... GTFO.
A child cannot consent to sexual relations with an adult. We have to establish an age of consent to stop pedophiles from taking advantage of our youth. How can you be against this in anyway ? Has nothing to do with ownership and ever thing to do with age limits, maturity, making the right decision etc...
No fucking way a 12 year old can make the adult decision to have sex, have a child and take care of such child. Stop giving pedophiles an excuse

Your reaction doesn't address the fact that when you mandate a legislatively fixed age of consent (which often doesn't mirror reality, since people mature at different ages) you are mandating taking away at least some peoples ability to self determine in many cases. I think that means you aren't concerned with equal rights for everyone or you believe EVERYBODY achieves the ability to consent at EXACTLY the same age.

The burden of proof of where and how you or I have the right to deprive a person capable of self determining from doing so, falls on you in that case.

I could almost live with a legislatively fixed age for people being in the military though...it ought to be 80, this might create more humane solutions to world problems. Almost.

I think you are not concern with men taking advantage of our youth. Your way would have a 40 year old dating a 13 year old...because she is "mature", Seriously you can't choose this as your fight. Your wife would not be proud of you right now and your mother would disown you

Actually I AM concerned about "men" legislatively taking advantage of some people who have the ability to self determine peacefully, from doing so.

So, if you think legislation prevents some things from happening, why not just pass a law which says nobody can kill anyone? Surely that would end all murder right ? (that was sarcasm btw)

A douche bag isn't how I would describe a 32 yr. old undressing a 14 yr. old and touching her over her underwear.

Not to mention a pattern of chasing teenagers in one's 30's.

I think all judges should be disrobed. Judges, like cops, prosecutors etc. "swear" to uphold or enforce all laws, but all laws are not morally sound.

So they swear to do things on a regular basis which are not morally sound and use excuses like, "I am not responsible for my behavior...when I wear this robe it magically transfers the guilt of my actions to something inanimate etc.

So if Roy Moore were 14 and touched another 14 year old on a consensual basis you would be okay with that ?
