Got a project for you, that should help.

  1. Get a couple more solo cups, and cut them in half (razor works)
  2. Place the top (open) parts of the cut cups on top of your Hydroton, in your existing cups
  3. Fill up the new space with Hydroton
Now your plants will hold up. You might need much less than half a cup, to hold them up. Leave an inch or so, of the stock exposed.
great idea!!!!! give me afew

Are you top feeding still? If not, you should. It'll draw o2 to the roots when you pour the water. Now that your RR is covered, it should hold more moisture. I think they still help provide moisture to the roots. When they get bigger, like a couple weeks into veg, then it won't matter.

Do you have drain holes in those cups?

answer yes to both questions :) i top feed prob 2 or 3 times a day. depending on what the plant is asking for.

Did you lower your ppm. Was reading thru and saw 600. They are so small tho.
I still think your original problem was nute lockout due to too much of one nute. Im probably wrong bc I don't know sh**.

If it is 600, it's way too high for these little ones. I would be around 200ppm. I would also do a flush first.

Look at this. One day and the roots are searching like crazy.. it just needed to be closer to the net pot. Bubbles weren't popping on the bottom i don't think..

Newbie question: why is the seedling in hydroton in a solo cup instead of the seedling being in hydroton in the DWC?

Also, how do you “water” the seedling in that setup and then how do you “transplant” it into the DWC?

the seedling is in the cup because i could control it better than having to worry about a huge DWC bucket, the roots werent quite developed enough for me to move into a 5 gallon bucket or (transplant).
the way you water the seedling in that setup, is just get a few mls of RO water or tap water and squirt it into the medium. :D hope this helps.

How will you get it into your dwc bucket then without damaging the roots?
(Asking because i have 2 that just sprouted in rapid rooters and their taproots are about 1/2” long outside of the rapid rooter. They are in a humidity dome, but I dont want those taproots to dry out!)
