Okay. Help? Maybe?

Okay, let's see.
I'm trying to start growing.
Trying being the key word.
I don't have a lot of time to spare for my little friends, nor do I have much money.
I've been able to get 3 seeds to sprout, but all died within a day of air exposure. It made me so sad, I felt like a daddy for a few days.
I really have no idea what went wrong. The first time I was growing by a window, using bongwater to water them (does that help, hinder, or do nothing to plants?). They died in a few days.
The second time I tried I turned an old computer tower into a growbox. I stuck one of those spirally lightbulb things in there for light, about 2 inches from the plant, and used regular tap water. I live out in the country, so there's no chemicals or shit in the water. This one died quicker than the first two seedlings.
Yes yes, I know, I could probably find some answers in the 101 questions thing, but I just don't have the time to go through and look at everything. I'm using a library computer and I find time to stop here every few days and check my email and such. Rather hectic schedual.
Would anyone take pity on a poor little noob?

Do not use bong water.
Get some potting soil.
Germinate with water and paper napkin for 2-3 ds.
Plant seed .5 mm down with root down.
make sure you have drain holes in pot.
If you use yard soil microwave 1st to sterilize.
Put in at least 6 - 8" pots.
Once they are about a week old you can water every 3-5 ds.
Keep light on 24/7.
Peace and plant seeds
Potting soil would be better.

well first plants take time so slow down. bong water bad. heat is a prob when light is close so fan/fresh air is key. And you can just start growing weed with no experience but it's best to do some reading so take a minute and grow some real bud . but read read read l

How much do I water up to the week old age?
When I say they died, what happened was the shoots layed down, the leaves turned brown. When I pulled them out to toss them I noticed the roots looked all dead but a small margin that still looked healthy in the middle of the root. Demeaning then unsalvagable, I tossed 'em out my window.
I understand that the process will take a while, so I'm trying to be patient. I'll be home for the better part of the day for a while, so I'll be able to give them the right attention.
And does anyone know if the sprirally bulb will work? I thought it was a flauresant(sp?) bulb, but I looked on it and it doesn't say it anywhere on the bulb, nor did it on the packaging. I just don't want to be harming them.

As for bong water, check out this link https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/2507-bong-water.html

Using tap water is not always the greatest thing. Usually works, but sometimes doesn't. PH your water and start out with starting soil. You can use starting soil for at least a month before transplanting to something better with more nutrients. Have good drainage holes and plant your babies individually. Good luck on your next grow!

The spiral bulb will work. That is a Compact Flurescent Light (CFL). Use the highest lumen output you can find. Cool White for vegging, warm white for flowering. Only water when the soil looks or feels dry. Make sure some water comes out of the drainage holes and then wait until the soil is dry once again.
