i heard you can save food scraps... (banana peels, ketchup, even seaweed)

and make a tea out of them and use it in a hydro set... is this true?

if so, any good recipes?

It's called composting, but using it in a hydroponic setup would be quite difficult. Even if it's not "visible", there's always crap in there, no matter how much you try to blend it down. Corporations have a jump on us here because they have specialty industrial-size blenders that actually liquify all the grit. I recommend you buy an organic nutrient mix from a reputable supplier, such as Advanced Nutrients. Otherwise, you're running the risk of seriously screwing up your hydroponic system.

Hahaha! True! You can use leftover juice, coffee, and tea, and that will help, but I recommend you put it through a stocking or cheesecloth to strain out any remaining sludge... any in there is a bad thing, in a hydro system.
