It's a bug predator. That's what lady bugs do. They're cats in the bird world. They seek and destroy other bugs that do harm. Look pretty doing it. The bright red ones are males. The females have a browner shade.

Don't use them if you use a LED. They land on top of the light and decide to do a nose dive into the cooling fan. Making a playing card in a bicycle wheel type noise.
