Overwatering in DWC?

Blue Lab truncheon has worked for me for years, I purchased mine from Flora Hydroponics, Ricky is the shit. It has EC and PPM in x5 and x7.

If you can find out which yours is, simply divide by 5 or 7 to get EC. Calibrate and store per manufacturer recommendations.

I calibrate it. But I am naughty with storing it. I use it twice a day so I set it on the table outside my room on a clean paper towel in between.

I had no intentions of getting a Pom meter initially. I didn't know what it was. It actually came as a combo with my PH meter. Started using probably 3 weeks in.

So to say the least I wasn't looking for quality or any certain settings in my PPM meter when I got it. If it were to break I'd get a ec meter for sure.

No worries, buy cheap buy twice.

When I started I used the eye dropper and test tube method instead of litmus paper then I picked up the truncheon per Ricky's recommendation and never looked back.

So.....it's a lot better..... I mean the leaves were just like wet before. You could tell they were just completely saturated. Some even deformed and soft. Humidity back to 48. But temps also drop to 70 during dark. So I don't really know if the second stone is counterproductive yet. To really know what's going on I'm probably best to keep humidity here and observe to see what happens before pulling the air line to the second set of stones.

If it turns out to be the low hunidity, that's something I didn't really think could be an issue. I see high humidity talked about a lot as an issue. Not a whole lot of warnings about dropping to 30% hunidity

Also as I just gave them fresh buckets 2 weeks into 12 hour, thinking I should probably be switching to my flower mix? I actually just gave them a refresh of full veg mix.

Wow so I think it's def my fill line they aren't likeing it now....water level obv dropped and significant improvement. Tank temp was 71.8 that's shouldn't cut off oxygen. But fresh tanks and leaves getting wet and puffy again. I'm dumping another two inches.

So let's get this out there because I've heard it brought up other places. Do you fill as much as you can in there or do you say fill until it touches your net pot?

Past experience:

Once a strong tap root forms, ~2 weeks in the cloner, they go into net pots with hydroton and the water level is at the bottom of the net pot.

Once I see roots in the water I'll drop the level an inch or two. The bubbles breaking at the surface along with a sealed container keep the roots moist and able to breathe.

Leaves take in carbon dioxide, roots take oxygen. Don't starve either.

Higher at first until they are established with roots coming down then drop water level so not touching the net pot with nice big air space in there. The more fluid in the buckets the easier it is to keep it stable.

Look into DWC recirculating drip hybrid system brotha, for the future, best dwc I ever ran and and the buckets hold very stable pH and EC and massive yields.

check out Heath Robinson DWC tree grows. ;)

Kinda sucks if keeping it to the bottom of the net pot is what's gonna fix this, roots are big, only gonna be able to put like 3 gal in there.

4 gallon is putting it an inch from the brim, so might only take 2.5. I didn't measure how much I dumped.

Edit:talking about with root mass displacing water.

That is the same problem I ran into late flower.

The plant was three times bigger than when I put her in, the roots took up a substantial portion of the reservoir.

There is a thread I want you to read:

https://www.rollitup.org/t/aeroponic-space-shuttle.38569/

That should give you some serious groundwork. My new lab is based on that design with a few tweaks.

The feeding schedule is maintained by checking EC/PPM and the water level, what to feed is based on the plant's needs. When you initially flip to 12/12 the plant will stretch, no buds yet so it is still in veg mode.

Once the stretch stops and buds swell the plant will beg for phosphorous and potassium. You will see a slight deficiency start and that's when I switch.

Most bloom feeds still have some nitrogen in them, most bloom boosters don't.

I don't know if I'm ready to go that elaborate. But I was thinking of going to totes or something larger, and looks like I'm only going to feel that more and more as I'm just going into flower. Lots of info in there, lots more to read.

I no longer use totes, they aren't food safe and will degrade over time. Earl never mentioned any problems, I'm just picky.
