Passive air intake & light problem

My apollo tent only has mesh/velcro passive intake flaps at the bottom of the tent. NO ducting holes. (grrrrr) It does have 3 ducting holes up the top of the tent ~useless for passive air intake, as the air must flow into the tent from the bottom, correct? cool air in from bottom, hot air out the top.

THIS GUY sums it up pretty good

So..during flower how do I get air through these vents without letting light in? Are there ways to create something DIY to stop the light?

thanks!

Are you running any type of exhaust fan? Carbon filter? For some types of plants passive airflow will work, but this is not one of those, you will need mechanical airflow and filtration during flower

Use something to shade the light from entering the intake - lean cardboard from the floor to above the intake. Leave some space @ the bottom to breath through.
Have a scrubber strong enough to pull the sides of your tent in a little. This creates negative pressure to insure all your stink goes through the the filter! If you have fans on intakes, you have to balance your in/out so your not blowing stink out!

What if you used flexible duct to make one of the intakes at the top go down.

If that makes sence

Thank you for your suggestions!

For exhaust have a 190cfm VenTech fan and carbon filter set up. For space reasons I created a way to hang the filter vertically inside the tent running ducting to my fan outside the tent. Im not running them till I need them later. Humidity and temp are fine inside the tent right now. (temp 75 humidity 50-60) I posted a picture below.

I like the cardboard idea, thank you. Someone mentioned putting a piece of black charcoal filter over the outside of the hole, one of those that are used on a kitchen stove vent.

Yes, I thought of running a piece of ducting from one of the top holes and just letting it hang down onto the floor. Would that work even though the entrance is at the top? Will cool air flow down?

Why tent manufactures put these vent holes on the bottom of the tents with no light blocking apparatus is beyond me. During veg you need air flow, but cant have light, they dont know that? :-)

Look into building a light baffle or light trap out of card board that you can fit snug to it. Those vents are great for passive but they do light the room up as you have noticed.
Nothing wrong with hanging ducting as has been suggested, yes cold air will flow down but it does use up valuable space to do that. You can open the vents in part by sliding toilet rolls or some small plumbing supplies under the Velcro, not as much light leak but you will get some.
Its a Pain in the ass ey

Run the ducting down a corner of the tent 4 inch is enough, and when you run your exhaust fan the cool air will be pulled in to the bottom of tent you don't need your filter in veg but you should have an exhaust fan to exchange the air inside the tent

I'm a small apartment grower and i cut through and modify the fabric of my tents all the time. Just use lots of duct tape and cardboard or panda film and nothing lost. Besides customized hole locations make proper air flow a breeze, regardless of the space you're working in. Good luck.

thank you guys! I ended up getting a black air conditioner filter and doubling it. i duct taped it over the vent flap and tested it, no light in tent :-) I am going to start playing with the exaust and filter more and get ready for when my plants get a little bigger. right now i have passive intake and a rotating fan in the tent, the little one is gently getting a breeze over her leaves.
