Permethrin to kill fungus gnats ?

I bought a pesticide that had permethrin(.25%) as an active compound to do the job. I had a problem with those pesky fungus gnats. I sprayed this pesticide because it stated "Safe on all Plants." When I first used the spray the bugs looked defeated. When I came back the next day they were there waiting on me.:wall: The spray did not hurt my plants at all, but it did not kill the Flying pesky fungus gnats either. I looked on the threads and there was not a lot of info on this spray. But from my expiriance it does not work very good, so save your money. The only way "I" could get ride of these pesky fly by's was to wait until the soil was very dry and let them die from no moisture. They live in the top 2'' part of the soil, "from what I have researched". So when I needed to water I stuck a tube down 3-1/2'' to 4'' from the top part of the soil and watered through the tube. I did this for a week and took the tube out. Worked good. Those pesky fungus gnats are all gone. :finger:u bugs!! They are now in gnat hell with all their friends.:fire:

Ps. When you water do not soak your soil to much while trying to ride them from ur operation. My main thought while going to war with them was "They love moisture. So if I keep the moisture to a bare minimum they will have nothing to grow in". Keep that in mind the entire time. Everytime you do something durring this stage of war keep that statement a pure reminder and you will prevail. "NO MOISTURE WILL KILL EM" :-P:weed:

just cover the top of your soil with sand. it eliminates their ability to lay eggs in your pots. this will kill their population quick. unless they have another prime location for breeding close by. thats why i always provide one, thats controlled. I always dispose of it. (i use a margarine container with a wet paper towel inside. they will lay their eggs on it, all you have to do is throw it out every couple days.

nematodes can be added to your soil, they will burrow into the larva of the fungus gnats and eat them from the inside out. worked pretty well for our problem.

I have wiped out fungus gnats by putting up fly strips to grab the adults, and water with a hydrogen peroxide water solution and it kills the larva immediately.

Yet they will still hang around for a few waterings (use peroxide each watering) as a few adults will escape and breed.

After 2 to 3 waterings over the period of 7-8 days, combined with fly strips, they are just 'gone'.

It has worked for me the few times I had issues .. once it was so severe my soil was crawling.. literally.. but that hydrogen peroxide solution knocked them out naturally that day.

That's just me.. do at your own risk.. although for me I have found zero real risk from doing it. In fact the plants perk up like crazy with the extra bubbles.

Thanx for the info. I have used the dish soap method to no avail. I did use water with a hydrogen peroxide water solution and that did kill anything in the soil. I used duct tape to catch the adults. It worked good so far so good. Only time will tell. Thanx again comrades.
