Perpetual grow questions . . .

I'm wanting to move towards a perpetual grow and have some questions regarding Mother plants, seedlings and clones.

I have an 6 bucket RDWC setup that I've had 2 successful grows using. I usually just germinate 6-8 FEMINIZED seeds and use them in the RDWC setup. I usually veg them for 2-3 weeks and then flower for 8-10 weeks.

So far I have been lucky and have NOT had a MALE plant. But if I'm going to do a 12 plants grow and a longer veg time I don't want to take any chances. I want to make CERTAIN that ALL 12 are FEMALE!

For this grow I am expanding my RDWC setup to a 12 bucket setup. I would like to have a 3-4 Mother plants from different strains and clone from the Mothers.

Here are my questions:

  • I will germinate 3-4 seeds to use as Mother plants. Should I maintain them in an EBB & Flow setup like the BigFoot Ebb & Flow system?
  • Should i use Rockwool for my Mother plants that are going be in the Ebb & Flow table?
  • Should I flower the Mother plants to make CERTAIN I have FEMALES and then switch back to 18/6 to put them back in veg OR should i take some clones and flower the clones to determine sex?
  • I would prefer to use hydroponics for this setup. I don't want to mess with soil as I'm most comfortable with hydro at this point.
  • Should I clone/veg with LED or CFL lights? I'm leaning towards ordering the (2) ProSource LED's for the Mothers & clones.

I envision using the BigFoot Ebb & Flow table for my Mother plants and taking cuttings and putting them in to a cloning bucket for 10-14 days. Once they are successfully cloned I will then put them directly in to my RDWC setup. I'm going to attempt to grow some MASSIVE trees so i intend to veg for at least 4+ weeks, top, pinch, trim & LST. I want short/medium height bushes that are PHAT!!!

Any input would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks in Advance!!!

1: it will be cheaper and far easier to maintain your mother in soil
2: if you insist on using ebb and flow for the mothers i would recomend filling up the extra space between rockwool cubes with hydroton to give the roots extra room.
3: if you grow the mothers from true fem seeds you should have no problems, as long as you dont stress them into herm
4: again soil is cheaper and easier, many mixes will last you a few months without having to add any nutrients, always good to get comfy with a few ways of growing
5: there are many arguements on which is better, id recomend doing a bit of research on spectrum and lumen output and distance the lights are effective.

i wouldnt keep moms in a ebb tray soil is by far easier or if hydro is what u want get a hydro farm bucket. i like hydroton flooded about 5 times a day (thats my bubba strain tho) rockwool can have problems such as overwatering, ph problems, an salt lock. if u want leds look up mr. blue goo on you tube, he got a light called (pharo, fero) 540 led light he said works great. u wana get a light thats chipped for 3w or greater. Also my 2 cents i would use your flood tray for budding and your buckets for moms, an use your tray for a perpetuial sog style grow. if u get a strain that goes in 70 days u can get a harvest almost every month. but ne ways hope this helps an have a growtastic day
