instead of buying a soil ph tester u should buy a water ph tester and adjust the water u are using for your plants and your soil will stay at a good constant range

That makes sense but i would still need a soil tester to monitor ph levels in the soil? The grow medium i used was 5 parts potting soil(no add ferts or nutes)1 perlite,1 part vermiculite, small handful of dolimite lime, pinch of epson salt.I tested it after it was mixed with a chemical test from walmart(little vials with pills in them)but it wasnt a very accurate test.iIt was color coded to either alkaline ,neutral, or acidic, not an actually p.h number.my mix tested neutral but i would just like to be certain because i heard high ph produces males and i definately dont want those.

I use that one and it has been fine for me; calibrates easily, checks fast, and has stayed calibrated so far. I don't know if mine is a slightly different model as it seems identical but is shown in the photo with one calibration solution when mine is 2 point at 4 & 7. I would classify Hannah as a reliable brand and you may be able to find one even cheaper on Ebay.
