Hey everybody!!! I missed you guys during my time away but im back now and ready to get goin on some indoor!

This run I will be planting just a few PPF8 in 1 gallon pots using Roots Organic 707 as the medium, maxibloom for feedings, tap water, and a MH bulb.

These seeds come from a particularly resinous mother plant with amazing berry aromas (light purp) and a father with dark purple resinous flowers. I will be looking for any females exhibiting the superior qualities of the mother plant in an attempt to isolate and lock down that ultra resinous trait within this line for future outcrossing without having to guess. She will more than likely be pollinated with feminized pollen but if I find a suitable male I will also make regulars to test in the future. This is just phase 1 of my F8 I will still have a few more rounds to go before I can move on the F9.

Any questions or comments feel free to chime in anytime Im all for feedback and open discussion :D

1. Resinous
2. Dense buds
3. Dark purple (far behind the other two)

In my opinion, the ultimate goal is the effects produced, AKA potency, and I believe trichome coverage has the highest correlation with high potency, out of those three categories.
Thats exactly the order I would place trait precedence in myself.
However I do disagree slightly with your opinion that the ultimate goal is effect. Many of the buds that ive smoked in my life that were highly psychoactive looked like crap but got me annihilated, even to the point that I wouldn't recommend the bud to beginner smokers. A large number of popular cuts and seed lines today place more emphasis on bag appeal than anything else and I tend to really enjoy smoking these, even if I dont get as high, I smoke all day so I really cant have something that puts me on my ass with every toke and is hard to smoke when I could have something like jilly bean or maybe mauii wowie that have decent highs but are much more appealing in the smell, smoke and looks department. I guess its just a matter of preference though.

I do agree that the most potent bud isn't the best for those with low tolerances. I just think there are already a decent amount of options of lower potency strains, and far fewer options of great strains (especially autoflowering), si if I was going to invest as much time as you have in breeding a stable strain, I'd want it to stand out. Also, while some resinous, potent bud might not have the best bag appeal, when ground up to the same consistency, resinous bud tends to feel much more appealing than drier bud. It kind of moves a bit like that Moon Sand toy.

Got my seeds in the dirt and now im just waiting.

so hard to choose between all these beans! I remember each of the special ladies that produced each lot and I get excited imagining the possibilities :DView attachment 3804906

These are just the ones that made it to the final selection process
That's awesome.

very true, everybody and there mamma has a "frosty" strain but few have strains id classify as "trip weed" maybe only a handful. but I think it has more to do with the amateurish level of breeding we see in cannabis, we dont have the ability to test dna or run extensive gas chromatography in 99.9% of breeders situations so locking down an illusive trait like potency can be a challenge. For instance look at all the "strong" or "high thc" strains we have and look at the reviews on them, most are just hype but the truly killer ones stick out and are usually in clone form, thats because out of a population of "strong" plants its usually only like 1 in 10 that is actually potent. look at tom hills haze which supposedly has phenos that make u trip balls as hard as some shrooms or acid but its a 5% chance youll find one and most other phenos are shit! in fact he even refers to some as "hay phenos". Im guessing that like intelligence in humans potency is not controlled by a single gene or even 2 but more likely a complex interaction between a bunch of them.

the subjective nature of smoke testing for potency just doesnt sit well with me you know? i just wouldnt want to start on a multi generational project with something so intuitive simply because I just dont think the average persons senses are even capable of this. I mean what if you had a sinus in fection or were on medication or any other list of things that totally skewed your interpretation of the data at harvest time or during testing? it could throw a wrench in your whole project midway and you may have not even noticed. idk maybe im just a pansy ass lol just my 2 cents.

that touches on another point i always make too, when I smoke I do it for the total experience, inspecting the buds, savoring the aromas, grinding it up, smelling it fresh broken down, loading a bowl, toking, exhaling and enjoying. its almost ritualistic and when im forced to do it with schwagg or even something nice but not great it kind of ruins it for me. I enjoy the high but ultimately if I want to get fucked up or trip balls ill take a couple shots of whiskey, drop some acid, or eat some shrooms. hell even a dab gets me on a whole nother level but weed is just weed IMO it doesnt need to be anything more... or less :)

ever smoked any of TGA's gear? IMO thats the type of weed im after, stong but not overpowering with a fantastic bag appeal, smells are always amazing.

I agree that potency definitely isn't just one gene. It's a culmination of so many different chemicals and ratios coming together. I also agree that a plant doesn't just need to have high potency to be desirable. It should also taste, look, and smell great as well. being able to enjoy all-around high-quality bud, is great. So relaxing lol.

As for trippy bud, I've never personally tried a strain that felt psychedelic. A strong dose of THC after a couple day break hits pretty hard, but no bud has felt different than normal weed, for me. I'm not saying it doesn't exist, just that I've yet to find a strain like that. That would be awesome, though.

I've never smoked any of TGA's gear either. Sounds nice, though.

As for bag appeal and bud structure, check out this thread I made last year. There's some interesting discussion in there.

must have fucked up somewhere cuzz none of the pots i seeded have any sign of life but this little tin I left the extra seeds in is bursting out the seams with seedlings, transplanted them into new pots 3 per 1 gallon and the rest I put in the pots that didnt have seedlings showing yet so if they do come up theyll have to prove there worth keeping.20161018_085421.jpg

So cool..
thanks bro, I think so too! lol :P

UPDATE
Girls are only getting sunlight during the day and im bringing them in the dark at night but now that there starting to get a little thicker and are on day 2ish im going to start supplementing with a T5 at night.

Still not much action in the big group... if they dont come up soon its fine Ill just shift fire and adjust left. I will turn this into a staggered, multi line grow if that IS the case, no harm, no foul.

Careful with 707 when raising younger plants. I'm using it as well. It holds water longer than any other medium I've used so far.
