plant topped itself

Hi I'm a relative newbie n only done two grows of a couple of plants for me but am really confused by one of my plants. I recently planted three seeds from an online site but one of them growing very strangely lol.

Basically first off I noticed the top set of leaves (three sets not including round seedling leaves) were pointing upwards which I was told couple be due to too much light (which didn't make sense as my plants are leggy due to me , daftly, trying to give them sunlight which wasn't hot enuf). So I changed my light set up and brought inside using uv light. The other two are growing great, if leggy, but one has topped itself after three sets if leaves. Basically just above the first set of leaves a new set is growing above each lower leaf???

What do I do?? Will I b able to grow it (even though I may have to tie it up?)

Would help if a guy could see the whole plant but it just looks like an odd set of side branches coming out faster than most.

I love growing out the oddballs to see what happens. Not much usually and most seem to grow out of the aberrations they may start with unless they are really messed up.

With all the inbreeding that has gone on for years in the highly competitive seed breeding market it's not that uncommon to find a genetic screw-up in the woodpile.

Good luck with it. :)

Ya it looks like side branching faster than most.
That is indeed the sort of result you'd see from topping, the side nodes getting a boost to branch out.
Might indicate you have a strain (or phenotype of a strain) that will be really bushy and branchy naturally.
I wouldn't be worried, I'd be excited :)

"So I changed my light set up and brought inside using uv light."
Tell us more about that uv light?

Lol sorry I will take a better picture but now u all said what u said I'm very curious what is it gunna look like as it grows up but it is now growing a set either side of the praying leaves so think will have to tie it up though as get bigger coz I think it Gunn branch out in a "v" what does everyone recon?

I actually googled n the pics of self topped plants r proper funky. So is this mutation topping thing something that happens alot wen u buy seeds? Or is it quite unusual as I say only done couple of 2/3 plants grows with my ex before n they were both clones.

My lighting system is very simple at the moment. I'm using a reptile light (my actual heat lamp is tripping my electricity so have one a string about 3 1/2 ft above).

I did try the big bulb using my mains plug socket but they started to almost wilt within two hours (my cookie topped plant did n defo dont want that die) so ripped that down n put my 100 w uva bulb n they seem to love it. They a vibrant green n each leaf coming through right. Do u think the light will give enuf heat/light as they get bigger or should I then swop to my box n light?

Thank u for all your replies I really appreciate all your help. It really great to be able to ask people more experienced at farming than me. I will put new set of pics up soon wen I get back in and as I said thank u so much for all your help.

Your big bulb is probably one of the HID varieties HPS (high pressure sodium; orange) or MH (Metal halide; white).
They come with a box, a ballast, which you mentioned. And they run hot.
You'll need a good exhaust fan setup sucking air out to use one to grow.

I've never heard of someone growing with a 100 w uva bulb!

We could research the spectrum it puts out. It might put out lots of light in parts of the spectrum they don't use efficiently, or at all.
Then the issue would be that you're wasting electricity, not using a very efficient converter of electricity to plant usable light.

If you'd asked me up front I'd say just grab something typical so you know it will work, like a cheap white cob led.
But hey, if they seem to love it, go for it. I'll be following with interest

Sorry not been on had completely forgot to keep updating. Well it's now few weeks later n it's definitely topped itself im trying the low strain technique so wen u see the pics it will look strange but obvs im having to spiral two main stems really instead of one so as u can see It is doing really well. She did get a calcium deficiency but cal mag seems to have fixed that. Im finding low stress technique is bit difficult but the plant seems b thriving in it. My other single plants have loads of upwards facing nodes (is that right word?).i will text again in another dew weeks show u progress but after the veg state iz it true will double in size does that mean everywhere height, width, thickness etc? Also wen do u pot on does anyone know?

Are these the same plants you've been growing since your last post on July 25?

If so, and I'm not trying to be an a-hole here, you're doing a lot wrong and looking at 1g/plant the way it's going.

I'm not an expert grower but definitely a very advanced grower and willing to help you get it going better if you want some help. I'm out of town for the next 3 weeks but can look in and give you pointers.

I don't know the other poster in this thread, Mr Green but he seems to be offering good advice.

We really need to know better details about your lighting etc so we can steer you in the right direction and get you some decent yields.

We all were rookies once but got over it with practice. :)

:peace:

Any pointers welcome obviously this only my third grow n first on my own. New low stressed but im using a right supplements (hydro grow n cal mag (now 2ml a week as brown dots gone). Yeah they are the same one every node is pointing upwards as wanted a growth seems be starting go lot faster than before ?
