welll if your room is 6 ft, remove some space for the distance light to plants, the bigger the light the more space you need

then divide the remaining space into 3, and flower when plants are about 1/3 of the space you've got, cuz your plants may triple their size through flowering and you might run out of space or burn the tops of your plants from the lights

for a 400W HPS you will need to keep the light about 15 inches away from the plants

with CFLs you need 2-3 inches and so on

yep, you could go a little higher, but you cannot really predict how much the plants are gonna grow during flowering

I tie my plants down a bit, when they are too different in height, in order to make them more equal, so they can get the best of the light, and also if you bend your plant a little it reveals more of the lower branches to the light and they grow much faster

I don't do 100% LST (low stress training) but I bend the plants that seem to grow faster about 25-30 degree in a given direction, a few hours lated they start looking up again, so there is small.. lets say horizontal growth, in stead of being straight they look something like this

Code:
         /
        /
       /
this helps me keep all plants pretty much the same height
