Police urge Liberals away from making it legal to grow pot at home

OTTAWA -- The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police is urging the federal government to exclude personal cultivation from its plans to legalize marijuana.

A task force on legalization recommended allowing people to cultivate up to four marijuana plants for personal use, but association president Mario Harel says enforcing such limits can be very difficult.

Harel, who is expected to testify Thursday before the Senate's legal and constitutional affairs committee, says it's impossible to ensure such pot isn't being cultivated for the black market.

The association says the dangers of "grow-ops" have long been clear, and that allowing home cultivation would make it impossible to control THC levels, pesticide use and perils such as mould.

The government is expected to introduce legislation as soon as next week ahead of annual "Weed Day" celebrations on April 20 to regulate the use of marijuana.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says marijuana will remain illegal until a new framework is in place to protect young people and prevent criminals from profiting off the drug.

Really, cops are still using all the myths that were debunked in the Allard case. Please, give up the war on drugs mentality and get real. They should be more concerned with monitoring LP's for mould and pesticide use.

So basically their argument is ALL the stuff which was proved FALSE in the Allard trial. Fucking knobs shoulda read up first, gonna look pretty fucking stupid trying to use those points. Also why are they so hellbent on THC%?

They do have a big ace up their sleeve and thats Bill Blair. Having been chief for decades do you really think he'd go against his own? Police have a VERY narrow minded "with us or against us" attitude when it comes to supporting each other, even when one officer is clearly in the wrong or in the process of an abuse of power. Fragile egos and all that

Control...the prevailing theory seems to be that the higher the thc content the more dangerous, obviously, it is for the children. Keep it low and and people aren't so unruly....remember it's so much more stronger today than it was way back when prohibition first started....Hahahaha....there's no putting this genie back....the BM wins again.

THC limits is a way of controlling extracts. With oils/distillate..etc. now testing into the upper 90% active THC range, their lack of knowledge scares them.
