Portland area greenhouse grow

this is my first time outdoors, so i have more questions than answers.

i built a 12x24 greenhouse that is about 10 feet high at the apex.

planted them outside on the first day of summer, not much sunlight here lately, so not much new to report.

on the right are 3 god bud plants. on the left are 2 wmd plants, and 1 rainwreck (not trainwreck) plant in the way back.

just a few updates. they are about waist high now and green all over.

first photo is a wmd, the second two are god bud.

you gonna need to dig some huge holes or make some raised beds if you want to grow huge. roots on weed grow super fast and those 5 gallons are probably already rootbound. good luck with your grow.

thanks!

the buckets are bottomless, and below them is a mix of compost/lava rock before they hit the clay (which I did my best to loosen up). so the sky is the limit on these guys.

do you have any ideas on how to stake these up once the time comes? i already have a few branches that i know will want to fall over once they start packing on some flowers.

They look great!

You could put some wire cages around them

yeah, that seems to be the standard thing to do. i was thinking that if i did that now, they might grow through far enough to still flop over. have you had any experiences like this?

If you put the wire on now, it will hold them up later when they grow big flowers. You may or may not have to add anything else.

from what ive gathered you want the pots to roots to be able to grow wide not just deep. ive seen some huge plants grown in those kiddy pools, i guess because wide roots support better in the wind and stuff. but im sure you will have good results with bottomed out 5 gallon buckets.

they can get as wide as they want after they get past the bucket.

wire cages will get expensive and will probably keep me from being able to water upon consideration, doublejj. thank you for the idea though :)

i will need all the help i can get to pop my outdoor cherry successfully.

don't use fishing line when tying up your girls, you'll cut em'. fishing line cuts very well, and a little extra weight and it could slice right through smaller branches. There's lots of different ways to tie and stake, but what I do is put 4 stakes out a few feet away from the plant, and then get some 1' slats, 6' long (cheap at any lumber store)you can get a bundle of 100 for like 50 bucks if you need that many, but use the slats and tie them to the stakes with zip ties or something. Look at my thread in my signature toward the end and you can see what I do. You can add netting over the top of it too if you want. I think I'm gonna do that this year too for extra support for EVERY branch.
