Problems with Fox Farm anyone relate?

I use FFOF and the trio nutes for soil grow. I follow the chart to a T except i go 50/50 on the first introduction or so. I never really have problem until about the 1-2 weeks into flowering. I try going less on the nutes and i still seem to have problems.

Everytime, it begins on the lower to mid leaves and gradually works it way up. It also starts on the larger older leaves until they all die, then works it way up the chain. I start to see dark spots along and around the vein areas. This rapidly spreads to blochs and shortly after the leaf turns yellow, drys out and dies.

Currently 4-5 wks flowering i posted a link that i have on plant problems with pics but no real good anwser. Take a look and if anyone has some advise it would be greatly appreciated.

I can relate only because i also use FF and also had this problem with my first and only grow. I read your thread... they say it's normal. I know fan leaves yellow and die off during flowering but I've wondered the same thing. My plants wouldn't just yellow. They would start out showing a cal/mag deficiency on some leaves ... my other plants would just yellow and die off.. I don't think you have a K def. I think it's normal ..as long as your ph is ok and you're watering with nutes you should be alright.
Have you flushed during your grow at all...??

I was having simular problems, I hope I have it somewhat solved in this grow, I beleive the PH is high in the soil and needs to be watered with a low PH, and no nuts 1st 3-4 weeks, are you on the east cost? they opened a new plant last year and seam to be having problems with OF, You also want to cut OF with Happy Frog at least 2-1 HF, OF is way to muddy on it own.

I had the same problem. What you want to do is not cut the Grow Big totally out of your plants feeding schedule during weeks 5 and 6 like it says on the fox farms feeding guide. Slowly give it less and less..until the plant no longer requires this which is normally around a month into flowering. Then go with the Tiger Bloom and Beastie Bloom. Be careful with the open sesame if you use that stuff. I just burnt the hell out of one of my girls using that shit.

im using FFOF and there nutes im about a month into flowering now bottom leaves are turning light green/yellow and some of the upper leaves starting to showing like a red rust telling me a cal/mag def

so far i used big bloom/tiger/grow big at 50% from the first day i switched to 12/12 for 3 weeks no burn no def all was good i was using molassass in between

now last week i cut out the grow big and just using tiger/big bloom still tiger 50% big bloom 80% and now some top leafs show cal/mag def and lower leafs are yellowing some brown tips and drying out

so im gonna jump back on with grow big and i threw some molassass last night in my flush for the cal/mag def everything seems fine

so far this is my first grow and FFOF and the trio have been great! ive had all most no problems but human error PH issues other then that my plants are perfectly healthy didn't run into nute burn its been great and ill be using it for my next grow all so

Thanks for the reply guys, after a bunch of reading i believe that i might have induced this by cutting off the big grow right at 12/12 and going into tiger. Although i did give it less then 50% of strength, I think i stressed it by cutting off the big grow. I dont really think i have much nute burn i could be wrong but i dont get real crazy with the nutes, and i had the healthiest plants until the 12/12 switch. I also didnt start feeding until 3 weeks into veg and it only vegged for 7 weeks, (it got to tall on me) so thats only 4 weeks of feeding, maybe even less.

Correct me if im wrong but this is what i have learned.

To anwser your question i did flush with R/O right away noticing first signs of problem, so some where around week 2 of flowering. It only seemed to make the problem worse so after that i though possible the lack of nutes.

try adding a calcium and magnesium supplement.

botanicare makes a great product.

cal-mag

watch your ph with ff trio.

they are super acidic. to me they are like the bose of nutrients. id recommend using up supply and moving on to a different company.

I use the full line of FF nutes and micro's and start my seeds in paper towels and directly into the ocean Forest soil with added MG peralite,,,No nutes for a month of veg,,,Than half recommended dose to see how thing react,,,Than a smiggin' of cal-mag at feeding time every other watering,,till you can feel the reactions,,,FF is really good stuff but you have to be carefull with the nutes until you get a feel how it reacts with plant growth,,,I'm not switching I'm experimenting now! Alway's PH your mixture!!!

watch out for the mg perlite it has additives in it.

it is fortified with nutes!

You've nailed it - right along with the "healthiest plants up to 12/12", and flushing being sorta-helpful at best. I made the exact same mistake last year, and have seen it repeated on here a million times. Going to TB too early cuts off too much N; you're not burning them as much as terribly imbalancing them -- taking away one thing (N), and giving too much of another (P). I don't really think this can be turned around; at least I've never seen anyone do it. Good thing is, MJ is such a tenacious bitch, your plants will probably still make it and even turn out good.

And as someone else mentioned, I find that FF liquid nutes mix up really acid for some reason. The liquids are usually acid to keep the micros in solution, but theirs are especially so. I use Dyna Gro these days; they're also about pH 2.5 in the bottle, but level out right at 6.5 when mixed.

I think FF is still fine stuff all in all; just have to dial it in a little.

I Ph all the time, and i also have figured how to Ph FF with ease but i hear what you are saying, it can be tricky. Going into flowering my run off was around 6.7 and now is around 6.3. Was that a good change or should i stay alittle more basic.

try full strength on a plant, right off the chart. maybe the company that spends money effort and time on research is right and know what they are doing. what are the odds? I run 6 or 8 plants of different varieties in FFOF along the edges of my ebb & flow tables (maxigrow/bloom.) I vary ph between 6.3 and 6.8 like the chart says. I feed every other watering just like the chart says. I have never experienced burn except on some haze plants, every indica or mix I have ever run just loves the feeding chart.
what can it hurt trying it on one plant. don't believe everything you read on forums sometimes manufacturers know what they are doing.

so far I have used fox farm, bio bizz, general hydro 3 part, gen hydro maxi series, canna coco, ionic hydro, and probably some I have forgotten right off the manufacturers charts with great success. people use up 1500 ppm growing weed, unless its a 100% sativa pot can take full strength nutes.

I am not asking you to believe me, I am saying try it for yourself. remember the charts use lower amounts of nutes as the plants are younger then ramps up to full strength, isn't that what you want?

but what about all the people who say different, uncle stonedar? what about burning up my plants? how can you and the companies be right?
what does nike say? just do it! try it on one plant. just remember to flush for 2 or 3 weeks at the end.

.
That's a key point - strain variability. And to some degree, you just have to figure that out for your strains yourself. I've only done a couple of grows - one sativa and one indica and, no question, the sativas were way-sensitive. The indicas - I've had the opposite problem -- can't get enough nutes to 'em fast enough.

BTW -- pH 6.3 vs 6.7 in runoff? I wouldn't worry about it. Runoff tests aren't sensitive enough to distinguish whether that's a reall change or not. You start getting 5.5's or lower, you might worry.

Lastly, someone told me Foxfarms started using pine material from the southern US to make FFOF for the eastern states. Those are very different trees on very different geology than what they use out west; might explain some problems people are having with their "system", and why we have FF "haters and lovers" camps on RIU, both equally convinced of their views.

where are u getting ur water from? u ever test ur ph and ppm's of ur water before adding nutes?? to me it looks like maybe its from tap water and all the iron and calcium in it is putting those spots on ur leaves or its a N def...sometimes u can get bad N deficiencys that leaves spots on ur leaves and they dry up...didnt u say u lowered ur ppms to see if it would help but it just got worse, right? when i feed my plant and add nutes to my soil, i start low and never go that low again until the last couple feedings..i make sure to feed my soil higher amounts every feeding cuz as my plants grow and get used to what im adding to my soil they want and need those nutes to keep em happy and green

Yea I read all about tap water, and i do have hard water. I use tap water for my nutes because starting with a 7.5 and then adding nutes drops it to about 6.5, which is perfect. Then on my plain water day i give it R/O water which is around 6.6PH.

A little update going on about 6 weeks, i lost all my big fans and some little one surrounding buds are getting a little affected. I gave it Tiger B. and picked up some Cha-Ching, that i also added. It has been 2 days now since that feeding and the problem seems to be slowing down. Hopefully it holds strong for the last few weeks, as i will be flushing around week 8.

Wish me luck, and thanks for your replies

The nutrient content in MG perlite is next to nothing anyways. It would be like using only Big Bloom for your entire grow. Also very low nutrient content. I find using a lower strength of Tiger Bloom and continued use of Grow Big in the initial weeks of flowering to be really helpful. Slowly change the ratio until its all Tiger Bloom in the 4th or 5th week.
