Fill out an application and send it in with the requisite amount of money. You should not need to pay the background check fee, that is assessed once a year. Then, fill out and retain in your records signed patient agreements for each patient. That's it. In due time you will get the cards. Now that Theile's been canned, who knows what's going on in that dept.

Oh yeah.. a tip John Theile told me once: At the top of my most recent application I printed
New Patient -- 3rd slot
and in the section about background check I checked No and printed
Already paid for 2012
hope this helps

on a recent trip back to maine a friend of mine who has his patient card said its possible for a caregiver to serve more than one patient throughout the year of his license. he even said that a CG/patient relationship can last 24 hrs. as long as the CG logs the patients # in his transaction ledger , its all good.

this seemed too good to be true so i looked around.

5.8.2 Cultivate up to 6 marijuana plants for each registered patient who has designated the primary caregiver to cultivate marijuana on the registered patient’s behalf;

^ led me to believe that there had to be a paper record of the patient/caregiver relationship instead of just a verbal agreement before i could even begin planting.

so i found the form - http://www.maine.gov/dhhs/dlrs/mmm/application-material/Designation-Form.pdf

i am a bit unsure how to interpret this. is this for the caregivers records only to be presented when asked by law enforcement OR is a copy sent to the state?
is it possible to sell your product to anyone with a patient card as long as you do not go over your cultivation or monthly transaction limits?

for example , patient A + B allow me 6 plants each. i provide them with their maximum allotted amount yet am left with 'extra'. can i open up a one week agreement with patient C to discharge the overage? (this assumes i have paid the state for 3 slots)

hope this makes sense

imo yes, you can serve more than one patient with the same caregiver card, provided you have a signed agreement. For example, I recently took on a new patient. After sending in $ to the state, getting the caregiver card, AND providing some free initial meds to this person, they sorta disappeared. Now I have a card for which I could sign on another patient.
You can provide meds to people you don't have a agreemet with, but cannot get anything of value for it.
