Progressive Party **Official Thread**

It's funny, right? All these same people calling for unity before the election, when they thought they needed us to get Hillary Clinton elected, now outright dismissing the progressive grassroots movement that has unified 2 dozen organizations encompassing millions of actual progressives calling for all the same changes they claim to support...

The Democratic establishment won't unify with organizations like OurRevolution or Justice Democrats because they'd have to abandon big money donors in favor of individual constituents. The holdouts at RIU who claim to be progressive support Democratic candidates who make up the Democratic establishment, like Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, etc. They're the type of people that would rather let Republicans like Donald Trump win than allow actual progressives to take control of the direction of the party.
@Grandpapy just posted a link to a Pew Research article about how the Democratic actually get more money from rich donors than Republicans. That was a real eye opener, considering how bad they have to suck to lose all those races while having more money.

Explain how buck is a racist
I’ll explain how he doesn’t give a fuck about racism...

If he did care about racism and the people it hurts, he’d work to change it. He’d engage people showing racist tendencies and show them why they’re wrong using facts and logic. He’d acknowledge that it’s learned behavior and try to help people unlearn it.

He doesn’t do any of that though. He uses the racism card to shut down conversations and to discredit people that don’t agree with him. Accusing people of being racist is just a tool for him to club people over the head with. He uses it so casually and so often that people don’t take him seriously when he trots it out 50 times a day.

I can’t say for certain that he’s racist himself, but I know damn well that he doesn’t give a shit about it.

Curious as to how you know what he does when he is not on RIU ?
More curious to hear what you do to combat racism. Do you use the same approach as @ttystikk ?? Don't talk about it and it will go away. That is tty answer. Do you have any stories on how you combated racism in hockey...oh wait...

don't answer any of his patronizing shit..he doesn't care, like yesterday, he's looking for personal info to doxx or key on.

you're just giving him fuel.

what i'd like to know is how you can have several degrees and be as stupid as a mud fence IRL?
What I would like to know is why you are such a bigot ? I would also like to know why do you feel the need to have so many accounts on RIU ? More specifically you mention in PM that you have an account that is your opposite of SKY...why ? Do you think this sort of needs was also the cause of a failure in your marriage .

please list my bigot (ness) account (s) my PM's?

you know nothing of my marriage.
your bigotry shows in my sig. You can use the search function to find plenty more.
PM. You know the ones we used to have as a group. I still have the one in which you admitted to using more than one account. I offered to show it long ago, with your permission of course.

I only know what you told about your marriage, your mother drinking problem, your fathers racism that was taught to you, how you were raised by grandma and the other shit you shared with us. This was before you reveled yourself as this POS you know are.
If I say anymore you would yell doxxing...it isn't. Now saying your address or your real name would be. I would never do that in open forum...to you.

Keep trying.

The Israeli-South African mutual training and cooperation in the perpetuation of the tactics of apartheid is well known. Go look it up.

What I want to know is why you're leaping to Israel's defense on this? What skin is it off your nose? Buckwit has shown his true colors as a right wing Netanyahu boot licker, Zionist apologist and apartheid supporter- and you buy and back his line of shit hook, line and sinker. Why?

Do you have even one shred of evidence that they HAVE taken such money?

And what about any of all of the rest of those several dozen progressive political organizations?

And what about the obvious and pervasive corruption of the Democratic Party establishment? Why do they get a free pass for completely shitting all over the will of those who made the effort to vote in the primaries?

I don't really expect an actual rebuttal; instead, you'll snark something you think is 'witty', call me a 'retard' or a 'cuck' and then fatuously think that will pass as anything like an intellectually passable response.
Ok.

So why did they specifically do it if they'd no intention of taking it? They could've just registered as a regular PAC and been limited to $5000 donations from individuals.

Try jump start your brain, Jesus Fucking Christ.

Henk's other PAC "Wolf PAC" was a "no Corporate money" cause...yet they took donations from The Young Turks LLC.

This is why people call you names, you either can't or won't think...and I'm not sure what's worse.

It's because Democrats are educated and the money is in technology nowadays, Republicans are depending on "old money".

Read up on history of Apartheid. You completely miss the differences in your equating Israel's treatment of Palestinians with that policy.

We disagree about whether or not we can talk racists out of racism. I think your well intentioned crusade might affect one person, maybe. The civil rights actions of the 1960's were effective only because civil rights protests confronted and embarrassed racists, showing them who and what they are to everybody else. I don't think the men harassing the protesters who confronted segregation were ready to just sit down and talk about it. Segregation wouldn't have ended without actions that agitated these racists.

I don't think buck is trying to change anybody, he's confronting them and making them uncomfortable. I too think racism must be confronted, not tolerated.

That said, the accusation by tty is that buck is racist, which is pretty much a fake claim. It's tty who says that we should all stop talking about racism and some of the problems will go away. That's what a racist would say. I'm not saying tty IS racist but he sure talks like one.

I agree with a lot of what tty says and stands for, but on its face I don’t agree with that comment. *Just* talking about it absent effective policy solves nothing, so maybe that’s what he meant? I’m not exactly sure what he meant by that though, but I certainly don’t think he’s racist.

He has been clubbed over the head with that comment dozens of times now, and is a good example of what I said earlier. If someone were genuinely concerned with curbing racism they wouldn’t be taking a single comment by someone and rubbing their nose in it over and over again in an effort to discredit anything they ever have to say. How on earth is that an effective tool if your goal is to tamp down racist rhetoric?? If anything that will cause a person to dig their heels in and fight back.

I agree that overtly racist comments and actions should be called out. I disagree with you and others on where to go from there though. Show me a prominent civil rights figure that shamed people for indescretions, and I’ll show you a dozen that employed the exact opposite approach. What we see here is juvenile keyboard warrior tactics. That doesn’t fly in the real world....but this isn’t the real world, so grain of salt.

Rebukes and abuse handed to racists are not intended to convert them. Nobody but the racist himself can change his mind. The intent is to give them pause before making their racism public.

The only way to end racism is to:

Suppress racism
Educate children so that they don't grow up racist
Continue both until racists die out.

Germany is an example where this policy is effective. The job isn't done but the progress is evident. In the US, we have looked the other way and it's only gotten worse.

As far as your rather ignorant "show me a civil rights figure", I'd point to you that Muhammad Ali did accomplish much change the minds of white and black Americans. I'd also point out that Martin Luther King wasn't pulling punches in his speeches either.

Not that I'm comparing buck to MLK, too funny that thought.

Edit: To this I'll add that the NFL player protests to rebuke police brutality is having the effect of teaching children who look up to those players much about this issue and promoting public discussion.

You just lap up anything the reaffirms your confirmation bias, don't you?

Did that pew research article, you supposedly read, really open your eyes? Because he didn't post a pew research article, he posted a Capital Research Center article. Since you don't like to actually read, let me help you unpack that.

He posted this.
https://capitalresearch.org/article/party-one-percent/
Which Party Is the Party of the 1 Percent?

The pew research article you think you're talking about, is here.
http://www.pewsocialtrends.org/2016/02/04/most-americans-say-government-doesnt-do-enough-to-help-middle-class/
Most Americans Say Government Doesn’t Do Enough to Help Middle Class

Odd how different the titles sound, right? Let's look at what Capital Research is and does, and see if we can figure out why. First. lets stop by wikipedia.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_Research_Center

Capital Research Center (CRC) is an American conservative non-profit organization located in Washington, D.C. and founded in 1984 by Willa Johnson "to study non-profit organizations, with a special focus on reviving the American traditions of charity, philanthropy, and voluntarism.

I'm sure you are saying to yourself, they sound like wonderful people, but let's dig a little deeper. Who do you suppose this Willa Johnson is? The great thing about computers is, we don't have to wonder.

CRC was founded in 1984 by Willa Johnson, former Senior Vice President of the Heritage Foundation, Deputy Director of the Office of Presidential Personnel in the first Reagan administration

I don't know about you, but I wonder where they get there money from.

Politico reports that the CRC has received millions of dollars of funding from conservative philanthropies over the years. The philanthropies include foundations run by the Koch family, the Scaifes(these guys sure don't like Islam), and the Bradleys

As of 2005 CRC had received $115,000 from ExxonMobil

Wiki even has a section that shows if they've been involved in any controversies. Let's check that shit out.

The Capital Research Center came under fire in the 1990s for publishing studies highly critical of charities which engaged in anti-tobacco lobbying efforts. These charities include the
American Heart Association, the American Lung Association and the American Cancer Society. It was later revealed that tobacco giant Philip Morris provided $50,000 in funding to the Capital Research Center.

I don't know about you, but that does seem kinda fucked up to me. I know you like to get your information from youtube and hostile foreign governments, and might be saying to yourself, what's wikipedia, and can I trust it.

Well friend, I'm here to tell you, you don't have to. Let's look around some more.

The Capital Research Center (CRC) is a right-wing "think tank" whose stated mission is to do "opposition research" exposing the funding sources behind consumer, health and environmental groups. CRC is an associate member of the State Policy Network, a web of right-wing “think tanks” and tax-exempt organizations in 49 states, Puerto Rico, Washington, D.C., and the United Kingdom.

"Defund the Left" Campaign
As part of the conservative campaign to 'Defund the left' the Capital Research Center produces a range of publications targeting foundations, unions and activist groups that it views as supporting 'liberal' causes.

Dangerous Documentaries
CRC creates what the organizations calls "Dangerous Documentaries". A separate "dangerousdocumentaries.com" website says that Dangerous Documentaries "serves as the media arm of the Washington, D.C. based Capital Research Center," "with the mission of spreading the ideas of liberty, including free speech, free markets, individual rights, and open and fair-minded political discourse.

CRC Hosts State Labor Reform Conference The list of participants is a “who’s who” of anti-union activists and organizations funded by Bradley
https://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php/Capital_Research_Center

Need More?
The Capital Research Center’s GreenWatch.org website collects information on non-profit environmental advocates, and is heavily biased against climate science. In reaction to peer-reviewed study that found a 97% consensus among scientists that climate change is a real phenomenon and primarily caused by human activity, the CRC called the authors “alarmist.”

As of 2017, the CRC continues to oppose international treaties that countries have entered in order to mitigate the impact of climate change.

In 2016, the CRC criticized the U.S. Military for incorporating climate change into its strategic planning, blaming President Obama.

In 2015, the CRC described global climate treaty negotiations as “the culmination of decades of work by the anti-democracy Left, by power-hungry politicians and bureaucrats, and by greedy business people.”

In 2014, CRC posted an article called, “Global Warming: How to persuade those idiots who don’t agree with you.” The article is a retort to reporters covering the challenge of communicating climate science to a public that disproportionately distrusts the consensus among scientists.

CRC cited a rebuttal to the 2014 National Climate Assessment, signed almost exclusively by scientists with a history of payments by the fossil fuel industry or groups financed by fossil fuel interests, many of whom lack [advanced] degrees in science, or have not published any [recent] scientific research.
http://www.greenpeace.org/usa/global-warming/climate-deniers/front-groups/capital-research-center-crc/

More still?
These media sources are moderately to strongly biased toward conservative causes through story selection and/or political affiliation. They may utilize strong loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes), publish misleading reports and omit reporting of information that may damage conservative causes. Some sources in this category may be untrustworthy.
https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/capital-research-center/

I don't think that article meant what you thought it did.

I saw the bar and stools where those people were sitting!
It was at the civil rights museum in Memphis. The museum was built around the Lorraine Motel where MLK was shot. It is a "must see" if you're in the area.
They also have a metro bus similar to the one that made Rosa Parks famous.

SIDENOTE:
I've been to a lot of museums but never one that had metal detectors at the entrance.
They took my pocket knife -- and it was small (2" blade). :-(
Another weird thing was that they didn't allow pics in the first gallery. I put my phone away and never brought it out again because nobody else was taking pics, even when it was OK to do so.
