Question about Cal-Mag

Possibly to much mag or calcium starting to antagonize phosphorous.
Good possibility, you see, early on I had some necrotic spotting early on, and my soil is part Coco, so I figured I needed more calcium. My seedlings we're pale green, which I thought a little mag or N would help with. Lime green stayed as I ramped up the CalMag to 4 ml/gal, 200ppm of the mix. My margins and tips were turning dark green, and there was an ebb and flow of these red shoots. I'm moving to back it down to 2 ml / 100 ppm of the mix. It makes sense to me now I was overdosing with CalMag and messing with a macro.

I never heard of sunshine 4 needing cal mag supplementation. It has lime already.

And it has an organic fertilizer charge that becomes available after a few waterings so there may not be a need to feed right away.

Seedlings don't need nutes they have what they need so I would look to watering habits and environment for issues with fading. Usually overwatering is the cause in my experience.

Hope this all helps some.

Sunshine Advanced #4 is a very well drained, airy mix. It gets much less soggy than say promix. The manufacturer, Sungro recommends starting a fertilization program after 7 days. Also, is it your opinion that when using RO water, you don't need Calmag supplementation if there is lime in the soil? My watering habits are pretty good. I wait until it's pretty dry before I water and I don't oversaturate when I plant or transplant.

I never needed cal mag with complete nutes and ro water in promix. I guess it's possible to run out of calcium in flower if using a fertilizer with no calcium but still not likely.

So here's another pertinent observation/question. I also have on my shelf Advanced Nutrients Micro, Grow, Bloom 3 part. I've seen some beautiful success with the A&B 2 part. But when talking about a "Complete" fertilizer, I question the 3 part by AN. The Calcium/Mag Ratio in it is:

Calcium 2.4%
Magnesium 0.1%

I think the ratio should be in the 1.5:1 or 3:1 ratio range. Seems awful low on the Mag.

For those who find the guaranteed analysis elusive:

Sounds like you are learning. I had no gardening experience 3 years ago. I had known growers for many years but I was only buying weed not interested in growing then. I never even watered a house plant.

When I started reading the threads on the forums I realized there is too much mis-information for a beginner to figure out what to do so I read books and Greenhouse guides and such instead which led me to Botany.

Once my perpetual garden was successful for a couple of years the. I joined here to learn and help.

It is very confusing for most of us. I say try to keep it very simple and if trying to get guidance and opinions here make sure you know why not just what to do.

Good luck with your Grows. This is the most rewarding work I have ever done. I hope other growers feel that way too.
Amen to that

There is some overlap of ingredients between the 3 bottles. Some calcium nitrate in micro and some mag. And some more mag in Grow.

I guess you have to use all 3 bottles to be complete.

I don't like that. But it is common on pot specific hobby fertilizer. Fox farms does it too.

But I'm sure if combined properly it works fine.
