not that, you get what you put in. you'll have much better quality with something different from miracle grow. plus i don't like that mushrooms always grow in that soil on its own. i even use ocean forest for my seasonings, avocado tree, lemon tree, and spanish lime tree.

my rule of thumb never buy soil that is stored outside. hydro shops spray the inside of their stores for pests so if any pests are there, they would be killed. i know soil companies have huge piles of soil sitting outside before they bag them up. but i still stick to that and its served me well
I have gotten mites from cubes that were purchased from a hydro store.

The gnats most likely occurred during shipping, its very common in some regions. Try avoiding that store because chances are everything they carry is infected. Luckily gnats are really easy to get rid of. Hanging yellow fly paper will catch most of the adults. Adding an inch of dry matter will starve the larva. I like diatomacious earth, but you could also use sand or cheap non-clumping clay kitty litter. The soil itself is fine, its just peat moss and manure.
It's not peat moss and manure. The real problem with MG organic choice is that it's composed primarily of composted pine bark, which robs nitrogen from the soil as it continues to decompose. The other major issue is that it's full of chicken shit, which is ok, but not the best food source for our purposes. The bottom line is that it will work, but you can get much better results with a different mix (better yet, just mix your own).

The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company was founded in 1868 by O.M. Scott as a premium seed company for the U.S. agricultural industry. In the early 1900s, the Company began a lawn grass seed business for homeowners. In recent times, a significant milestone was the merger of Scotts, the leading lawn care brand, with Miracle-Gro, the leading gardening brand, in 1995 to create The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company.

OK I give up why should we not support Them. They were started here in America.

do your homework people... malignant is spot on about mg. nothing organic about it...i,ve used it, i no it sucks...thread other day guy says; neon green buds....no shit, you will light up 2 if u keep ingesting that crap. i understand newbs using this crap, because its easy to get...well so is promix, coco, foxfarm and plenty of others. some cheaper or close in price to mg. i will use soil from yard way before i would use mg again....peace brim
I don't usually get into these discussions because nothing good ever comes out of them, but I just had to point something out. Miracle-Gro has a few different lines of soils. They have an organic potting mix and an organic garden mix. The potting mix claims to contain, "composted bark, sphagnum peat moss, and pasteurized poutry litter. Sounds organic to me.;-)

.......oh, and here's the link to the label for MG organic potting mix.:blsmoke:

I use the miricle grow organic chocie garden soil mixed with promix, prelite, vemiculite. and i have that same mix + a bag of happy frog for my super soil.

I have not had a single issue with it at all, except it is super thick and muddy. It feeds the plants for awhille.

AND if mirical grow organic choce is JUNK..... than I must be that great of a grower to have such good tasting results
