i have read a lot of your threads...you say you only water weekly...spt one week and feed the next...btw...i have saved a lot of your posts and the replies to my hard drive for future reference

if you only water once a week how large are the containers...seems a small container that is about ready for transplant would dry up too quickly for that as the larger the plant for a given pot size would use up the water faster

you ever thought of doing a thread on npk values ...you could title it "npk for dummies"...lol...i understand almost everything has an npk value to it such as 10-6-1...0-7-2...13-13-13...and so on

is this the percentage by volume or maybe percentage by weight

and when you blend things with different values how do you determine how much of each ingredient to add to get the final npk values you want for a given stage in a plants life cycle

i know people post questions looking for help and recieve some good advice to fix their problems but if a person knew some of this voodoo they would better understand "why" it solves their problem in the first place especially when using liquid and dry nutes at the same time...since liquid i think releases faster than some of the dry nutes which is another question that you may not want to get into

if your soil has dry nutes that release slow and you use some form of liquid nutes such as PBP or even a tea...how would a person determine how much to use

sorry to dump this on your door bro but you seem to know a lot about such things and it seems like voodoo to some of us lesser mortals...lol...:peace:

W99ille...... I grow outdoors and not far from a small stream. It prevents me from having to hump large volumes of water any distance. Now, when Smoky-n-a-Whirly-bird comes looking, he usually flys over water sources.
.
The key to growing in the great outdoors is, never plant right next to the water source or in patches (rowed up like corn). One plant here, one plant there, randomly arranged and well spaced out. It makes them much harder to locate.
.
I also put perlite in my planting holes to hold water for those drier weeks.
.
The ferts or soil amendments we use to grow Mary all have an NPK value. That value represents the percentage by volume. For instance, if a fertilizer had an NPK of 10-10-10 It means 70 percent of the liquid or dry material is basically filler, then you have 10 percent of each - N, P, & K.
.
Liquids do act faster, since they are already broken down to their simplest forms. Dry ferts or amendments (normally), take time to break down - adding their NPK more slowly. Unless they are completely water soluble, like Miracle Grow or Peters dry ferts... Just add water and BAM 99 percent of the NPK are available (soluble) in such chemical ferts.
.
I advise, chose one or the other, on your feeding week (not both). Everything you pour in or top dress adds up. If you used a mixed up liquid with an NPK value of 10-10-10, then top dressed some High N Bat Guano with an NPK value of 10-2-1, you simply add up the numbers to get the total, which would be 20-12-11 <--- a sure fire receipe for burning Mary...ouch.....
.
For feeding amounts, go low and add up slowly. For instance, if Mary is sitting in a two gallon pot, when it's time to feed her, give her a little water first (eight ounces) followed up by 16 ounces of mixed up fertilizer. If in a five gallon pot, give her double that. Then over the next few days, monitor her growth. If growth is steady, no signs of burning, or twisting/curling of leaves - you know she can tolerate that amount.
.
When making changes to feeding amounts, go up slowly and see how she reacts. Some plants are heavy feeders and want more, more, more. Others nute burn easily. It is really a trial and error thing, until you learn that plants feeding tolerance.
.
Plants in large pots, or in the ground are harder to nute burn, becasue the extra volue of soil, buffers out the changes when things are added. Small pots, can develop big problems fast - they dry out quicker, are more effected by temp changes, are more easily overwatered & overfertilized. With potted plants, a bigger pot with more soil volume, just makes growing less of a challenge. Plus more room for roots equals more yield potential in the end.
.
Feed - Low, Slow & Steady..on nutes is my golden rule. You can not force feed Mary into being a better producer. Your plants either have good genetics or not - no magic bud bomb liquid will up the yield. Any ad that tells you that is just plain BS.
.
Now, with proper care, any plant can reach it's genetic, maximum potential, but not exceed it.
.
Hope this helps.....

that really helps bro...i am about to start working a small patch to get ready for next spring...dig holes in the red clay cement(lol)...maybe go ahead and put some soil mix in the holes and put the SPT on it to get the microbes working...probably go with ffof soil this time...make a wire bin for the leaves about to fall...will have to cut yard 1 or 2 more times so that can go in the bin also...btw...would like comments on the product in the link if possible

W99illie...... Preparing holes for next year is a good move. Letting the micro-beasties start now, ensures the soil in those holes, will be in better condition next grow.
.
Sounds like you have a good plan : quality compost & soil to drop in those holes.
.
I checked out the link, to DripDepot. Looks interesting. The only drawback to linking all your plants to a single feed irrigation line is : find one, you've found them all. It would require thorough concealment to ensure it did not give away plant locations. Otherwise, it looks decent......
