Quick and Simple Watering Question

OK, so ive looked all over the forum and it seems to be everyones conclusion NOT to water every day. Does this hold true even though the soil is usually dry 10-14 hours after a watering due to my massive light? This would mean that, if i were to water at the same time two days later, they would have been dry for around 30-36 hours.... Is this ok?

Depends on the size of your pots. When in smaller pots you'll need to water more regularly. Sometimes the top of the soil can look bone dry, but when you stick your finger in a little way you can feel the moisture. A general rule of thumb dictates that if the soil is dry 3 inches down then you need to water again.

Get some bigger pots.

yeah cheaper but the hydromter is much more reliable than a human, i got a cheap one for about 10 bucks, but i guess to each his own. I just know that i want the best for my babies.

Can't argue with that. I also want the best for mine, and as you quoted 'To each their own'. I'd rather use my eye and judgement especially as we have grown from seed as every plant truly is an individual and that is how I, we treat them. Everything is hands on, right down to mixing the manure into the soil, which we have done for about a third of our crop. The rest are in perlite mix. I want to veer away from the mechanical as much as possible. Aside from anything else mechanics breaks down, I don't even like using the lights.

I'll let you know how the bud grown in the manure tastes.

im with skunk on the "mechanics fail" opinion. nature did it best and always will. but i think i do a pretty damn good job indoors haha

yeah i can see where sublime and skunk are on the issue, but widow.... you dont like to get your fingers dirty? lol. Well yeah nature has done some pretty amazing things, and everyone has their own taste. I'd really like to know what manuire bud tastes like, i mean ive grown tomatoes in in manure and they dont tsste shitty.

While i have your guys attention i guess ill aska nother question. Im growing this pot of gold, and im about two weeks into it, and my star plant is only about 5 inches tall with a few multi layerd leaves, but no branches... I have two others, one abuot a week and one five days, that are only 2 1/2 inches with 4 leaves.... Im guessing this is smaller then normal?

Could this be a result of over watering?

If not, the only other thing i vcan think of is pH....

Oh yeah, and my pots are massive, at least 3 gallon, probably 4-5 gallon though

Read the guide, it'll tell you everything you need to know from start to finish. Read it and you should be able to see where you have gone wrong. It doesn't sound like over-watering to me it sounds like not enough light, or the light is too far away, you'll definitely need to ph the soil too.

yo skunkushybrid, you think the light might not be close enough even though its a 1500 watt MH light? its pro;ly 2 feet above them for the fear of burning them....

2 weeks in? I think you are doing fine, I can't remember how big mine were at that stage. Which really is something to think about. Next time i'm going to take meticulous notes. So long as the leaves aren't wilting or changing colour, I can only imagine that there isn't anything wrong.

Have you ph'd the soil? What about plant food?

No i have not pH'd the soil YET, i still need to buy a meter of some sort, but the damn 1500 watt ran me alot of bills... I know this is all over the forum, but what is the cheapest yet reliable pH meter available?

Do you know how often to feed Pot Of Gold? I fed them a little bit 2 days ago and was not planning on watering them until a week later.. Also, i didnt feed them too much for the fear that at their new, small state, i would over feed them or somthing of the sort...

Thanks for all your help

Litmus paper is not very accurate. Trying to determine ph from colour is a hard thing to do, especially that 5.5 mark. It's a complete nightmare. Digital meters fellas... the only way to go.

I purchased the soil ph meter at a home goods store in the home garden section for just under 15 american dollars. It seems to work ok, not as acurate or as good as the digital ones but nontheless it works. The ph water tester was purchased for 5 american dollars tests up to 250 times. I purchased it at the local pet store near the aquarium accessories. Again there are some really nice digital ones and expensive kits that can tell you more than just the ph but this works just fine and is cheap. Also better then the strips in my opinion. Anyway good luck with your grow. And these items seems to work just fine for testing your phs and all under 20 bucks.
