Quick and Simple Watering Question

so this a maybe a case of newbs leading newbs but allow me to offer my two cents. From everything ive read and from my own limited experience this is what ive found: dont sweat it! Its a weed, by definition it will grow even if you dont want it to. If your plants need really water they will tell you. They will look sad and thirsty long before they die of thirst. The best way ive found to know when my babies need water is to feel how heavy the pot is. If its heavy they got plenty of water. if its super light they need water. But dont over water, this is bad! Its good for the roots to hang out in dry soil for tick, lets em breath and prevents root rot. Happy growing!!

sounds good man. the easiest way is usually...well, the easiest and most effective. Some of you really need to do more research before starting or maybe a trial and error learning (i guess thats what could be happening). At least know the veg and flowering concepts, geez. I guess thats why this is the newbie thread.

Imo, "Poke that shit"

hello growers newbie here(kev)i've read through this forum and am a little uncertain about watering my seedlings, (ktrain) one popped up yestrday mornin,i kept cling film over it to keep the humididty high and it grew almost an inch in one day, its now under a 250 hps in a grow tent 2' w ' 4'h,lights came on at 6 this mornin and by 11:30 it was at least an inch taller, temp inside is 24c and hum is 65%,gave it a liitle water as the top was bone dry. should i water tomorrow until the water drains out the bottom and then leave for a few days?
lost a few seeds already due to overwatering during germ so any advice here is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance, kev

im fresh fresh in the game dont know shit so i need all the bases. how much water and how many times exact?

I didn't really find an answer here so ill throw it out there. I have 45 day old veggin clone in a 3 gal grow bag under 1 90w ufo. I transferred her into the 3 gal bag from a dixie cup 3 weeks ago. I've only watered once since transplanting but see all the signs that she's due to water. How much water should I expect to use for a 3 gal bag? Everytime I water, do I just filler her up till I see run off leaking from the bottom? I was told to water when the bag gets light and I have been and my plant is growing beautifully so assume that method is one ill stick to cause it works. I just want to know to what extent do I flush the soil when I water? Definitely going to water tomorrow morning.

I'm totally new at this, but there is no "exact". It's different for everyone. I think rule of thumb if the soil is dry about 3 inches deep that is a good sign they need some water.

I have a moisture metre...thingy. I stick it in the soil and is just goes off the chart to the "Wet" side. Apparently I R doing it wrong.

add my twopenneth - i have found by experience and research on this site and listening to everybody's knowledge (a wealth of good growers);

1) stick your finger in 3" down (careful not to tear roots) and see if it feels damp (as many others have said).
2) if it is dry AND the pot feels light - water until it pours out the bottom.
3) the frequency of watering depends on factors such as temperatures, humidity and pot size - however I have found that with 400w hps in a 3 1/2' x 3 1/2' home made tent with fan and extraction watering is every 36 - 48 hours.

I have read all of the posts and this seems to be pretty much the consensus. You don't need the electronics - save your money for an electronic ph meter!

Hope this helps a newbie like I still am!

Peace out

I am new to growing weed as well and just wanted to say hello and put my 2 cents in. I was told that 200ml daily is the thing to do for veg and you need to make sure to have grow and root nutrients for the plants. Is this the correct thing to do? So far it seems to be doing great for me since the water evapes in about a day and when I go to water it seems like it is time for it.

I am using a cube potter from Plant it Earth and from all the vids I see those are the ones that work best imo.

I have my white widow plants which are about 4-5ft tall in 20l pots and they are at the end of the 2nd week of flowering....im giving them 1l water + 1ml of BioSevia bloom in the morning at lights on time and 1l of just water 12hrs later a tlights off time

any indication as too wether this is fine or not?

A general rule of thumb dictates that if the soil is dry 3 inches down then you need to water again..
Hi, I am a first time grower too and I read this comment, which was somewhat helpful, since now I do have some sort of measure to know when to water.

My question, though, is:
1. My seedlings are 7 days old and they are in small pots with a soil height of 4.5 inches (11 cm). So how many inches should be dry before I can water again? The same 3 inches you were talking about? That would be almost the whole pot!
2. Nex time I have water, should I saturate the pots like I did the first time I watered them?

Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone I am a first time grower with a Hydroponicssystem my seeds have been in the rockwol now for one week. I plan on changingthe water and nutrients out tomorrow. I am watering the seeds four times a dayand for fifteen minuets each time. I am keeping my PH at 5.5-6.3 so far am Idoing everything right? When do I need to turn the light on? Is it when theseeds grows out of the rockwol? Thanks for any help.

I m growing in 10 quart pots. I bought a moisture meter and depend on it to reliably keep my moisture correct. I drilled 2 7/16 holes bout 3 inches above the bottom of the pot, 1 on each side. That way I can monitor my moisture level throughout the depth of the pot. Works for me. Keep it green.
