Quick Lighting Question please help

my friend told me during the plants life at the beginning till i get like 7 leaf groups i should use a 16/8 lighting hours cycle then when i get 7 leaf bunches i should leave the lights on 12/12 then when i want it to start flowering i should do 10/14 for the flowering period

is this correct?

you can have ur lights running 24/7 during vegetative period. most people put them on 18/6 believing that 6 hours of darkness is good for growth. when you want to put your plants into flowering just leave them on 12/12 to simmulate autumn
