QWET and how I did it. Suggestions welcome.

I have done 2 extractions so far. Results were pretty good but I'd like to improve my methods.

I basically followed the Skunkpharm method but used items I had on hand..

190 Everclear and trim/shake/buds in the freezer at least overnite.
into a mason jar, covered material with ethanol, shook up a few times for a total of 4 minutes soak.
poured everything into a 1 gallon water hash bag 73 microns , drained into a silicone pie plate 12inch diameter
loosely covered with wax paper, put under sink and let the ethanol evaporate
scraped up remaining concentrate and put in freezer to make it less sticky
topped off a bowl with bits of concentrate and enjoy!

thoughts? improvements?

the skunkpharm method uses a vacuum assist buchner filter instead of 73 micron bag and they also heat up the ethanol instead of letting it evap at room temps.

Doing the same but I take the solution and run it through a strainer in the jar and put it back into the freezer overnight. Then the next day this gets filtered through a unbleached coffee filter. This winterization seems to solidify the waxes etc and I'm getting a cleaner product.

I use a small computer fan and a heat propagation mat under a silicone dish for evap.

I use liquidizer products with the concentrate from there for vaping.

so i looked up a coffee filter. it's about 20 microns. do you think i'd be better off using a hash bag closer to that micron size?

the reason i used the 73mic is that most of the "good" water hash comes from that size and smaller.

so does this kinda settle the waxy stuff to the bottom of what you put back into the freezer before the coffee filter?
I use liquidizer products
more info please.

Wax. lipids etc get solid and don't pass through the filter.
Temp is low as its a seedling mat, higher temps seem to make it darker.
I put the filter on the jar ring and screw it back on the jar. This gives a tight seal and the filter acts like a billows when you push on it. Its eye opening how much gunk is removed by winterizing.

We dump through a Chinoise strainer to separate the liquid from the plant material and then use a commercial coffee filter, or a Buchner funnel with a #1 Whatman lab filter for filtration. Both between about 15 and 25 microns. Vacuum filtration speeds up the process.

I usually speed up the evaporation by placing the solution in a shallow casserole dish and placing that on about a 130F heat mat. I cover with cloth to keep out dust and overnight usually turns it to a thick syrup. You can also of course do this in a rotary evaporator.

We finish ours in a vacuum chamber or oven at 125F and -29.5" Hg, but ethanol is GRAS, so removing it all is a matter of preference. It will also purge and harden eventually, just sitting around and airing in a thin film.

PS: The fondue pot at 250F is for distilling off the alcohol and decarboxylating the concentrate. If you don't want it decarboxylated, stick with the above process.

Do you winterizie or just wash, strain and evaporate ?

if i wanted to put the concentrate into gel caps to eat, could you decarb the weed before you mix with ethanol?

and i think i'm going to use a finer mesh of hash bag too closer to 20microns.

Ill go into detail im tring to get the permit for distilling but ill go into detail as soon as i do i stoped because i just found out its not legal to distill ethenol... So i will document the process as soon as i do. But you guys are rocking it#!!

From what I understand is yes you would have to decarb it if eating/capsules . Decarbing turns THC-A to THC, from what I understand is THC-A is non psychoactive.

Since I'm old and old-school I don't get the BHO extraction ? Is it simply the whole process done in one shot with butane ? No lab here just a deep freezer, mason jars and filters lol

yep, butane is just another type of solvent. you have to purge it well though or you get residual butane left over. nasty stuff. and it's illegal here in CO since people started blowing up their houses while doing it.

Yea I'm not interested in doing it at all. Ill take the slow and steady route, I'm not in a rush and my extract is good although the terpene is stripped out.

what is the stuff you use to turn it into a liquid to vape better?
The shop down town los angles mario sells a gallon for 9000$ ya fuck that dude lolz and the other place sells there gallon cut for 700$ ya its called corn isolate but im sending the cut for a better analysis to see what it realy is? My suspision is 1,3 Propanediol i could be wrong but dam the vg in this oil is bomb. Im shure its cheaper than 700$ and way cheaper than 9000 dollars fuck man some times i just want to ××××$$$$xxxxxx!!!! People sometimes trip me out he musta seen dumb ass tatooed on my for head spelled backwards so he can read it...

You can decarb up front, but I prefer to do it as an oil so I can watch the bubbles to see what is happening.
