Ok, so my girls were germinated in wet papertowels wrapped in celophane and came out just fine. I got these seeds from a bag i picked up a while back that tends to cause serious couch lock.

The seeds were planted about 6 days ago and are under a 100w MH lamp. The lamp is currently about 6 inches from the tops, but it was over a foot and i was noticing stretch. I am going to leave it at this height for a day or 2 and see if its to close. Every day so far i have had the chance to set them in direct sunlight for at least 3 hours.

My soil is Jiffy Seed Start mix. I dont think it has any ferts so i am going to pick up some tomato ferts in the next day or so.

I need to figure out a ventilation system and pick up a 400 or 600w hps before long. For now, here are my 4 lovely baby girls.

So serious question! I'm very much concidering buying a 1000watt lamp switchable between hps and mh tomarow with an octagonal hood. Do you think its to much for a 2 foot deep closet with 5.5 feet of vertical (9 if i remove the shelf/hanger) and 8 wide? It's such a good deal and i'd hate to pass it up.

I just started freaking out because i thought i already had pests (saw a couple of bugs hanging out near my plant). Anyways, it turns out they are gnats! I guess they came in when i had the window open yesterday. What can i do to get these fuckers to leave my light alone?

go to walmart and get a hotshot no pest strip, and put it in your grow room.

be advised! these strips can kill pets!!!! do not leave them in a room with small children or animals!

but they work great, even kill spider mites...

1000 watters suck ass. metal halide sucks ass. get you a serious cfl and a 600w hps.

i absolutely love my 1000w hps; and i'm just as fond of my 400w mh's... all a matter of prefference, and what works for the individual, imo...

PLEASE!!! please do not pay any attention to userfriendly, please.

I have a 1000w hps, but your space is far too limited for all of that, I would go for a 400w/hps and get a conversion bulb, that way you can switch between hps and mh...

about my 1000w hps, I can grow 10 4ft plants.... userfriendly can maybe do 6 w/ his light........ u tell me, big money or little money??

Thanks guys. I am pretty set on getting that 1000w. I'm convinced that i can pipe that heat out and really get those plants to explode... it's just a matter of cost. Moving all that air is going to cost a whole lot. Today i bought some pots for a future transplant, some root stimulator from Vigoro, a powerstrip =), an oscillating fan that can mount on the wall, and shultz expert tomato food which is 9.10.15.

Ok... Just fed the little guys some nutes and i have to go away for about 24 hours so here's hoping this all works out. I'm leaving the door and window open for fresh air. I also dropped the light to about 2.5 inches since it is not getting hot around the bulb with that fan going.

How do you plan on getting all that heat out? Is your closet a sliding door or a hinge door closet?

I have a sliding glass door. I am going to figure out a way to rig up a fan at top and bottom with ducting to the top of the closet and the lamp to suck the heat off and out and then run an ac in the bedroom to keep it cool... that or just leave the door open. Its not like anyone will be coming in my room and you cant see the closet from the window.

you say your room is 8' wide 2' deep? ive never seen 1 in action, but have you thought about a using light mover? just to get the light across your hole room. and i would probably go for a 600w, or why not 2x400w. its abit of a wierd shape, why dont you 1/2 it, and use 1/2 for veg under your 100w? constant fems?

im one 2 talk, with no indoor grow. but, its just what id think about if i had your space (i wish ) coz it sounds like a sweet setup. but like graf says go for a 400w convers bulb, and have a look at movers.

babies are lookin good by the way mate, i visit mine once a week, and they dont look like the same plant so i never feel like i wanna leave (wheres the tent?). they grow fast!

I feel like i'm loosing it. These plants have become an obsession and i stare endlessly at them... its like watching grass grow (wait, it is!). I came back today and the air almost up against the glass... where the plant is came in at 68 degrees! i had left my window open while i was gone because i thought it may get to hot while i was gone but it ended up being overkill.

They seem to have grown so much since yesterday, it may just be craziness though.

If i cut my room in half length wise down to about 4 wide and 2 deep, 6.5 (i can still go as high as 9) high with a 1000w hps in there... how much air would i need to move? would 2 - 50cfm bathroom fans, one in one out, be enough? I have a plan for how to get the heat off of the lamp and all, i just dont have any idea how much suction i will need.

ok... so i did the deed. I bought a 1000w hps today. It starts up quickly and the ballast is dead quiet. I was actually a little shocked at just how fucking hot this bulb gets! I just didn't get it till i got it. but luckily the reflector is double vented and what not so i shouldnt have any problems... I hope

If you can tie into the ducting and get a squirrel cage fan or some bathroom fans you can suck the heat right out but I have a similar space and stickw/ 400watt HPS and some 100+watt cfls vented through ducting and passive intake works well....if you have the Heat figured out then go for 1000watt but 400 works.

i to have the same size grow area and was also wondering about shower / bathroom fans.
I have a 100mm single speed fan that can extract 85 cubic meters per hour or 23 Litres so i am also keen to know if this would work.

Thanks, I like it =) i figure i can stretch this 100w mh for another 2 weeks before i have to go to the big one. So i guess i have a little time to figure out exhaust options.

Since all that I have been talking about is lights and vents, I figured I'd post about the most important part... The plants!

So its day 9, and my girls are fine! Plant 1 has some yellowing the corners of the leafs but i think it has to do with the nutes so i discontinued spraying them with 1/20 power nutes and went back to water. All of the girls are getting so big. Before long theyll be going off to college and having (lesbian) sex.

I spent a considerable amount of time trying to build a passive air system that would block light and allow good flow out of cardboard (its a mock up, ok?) and it seems to work, keeping my temps right around 80.

The humidity is very concerning. It wont get above 30 and i am having to water the girls daily along with their mistings. Guess I'll have to pick up a humidifier... fuck.

ok... so I am truly impressed by how quickly these little shits are growing. I let them sit in direct sunlight for about 4 hours today and they were just beautiful. Plant 1 was trimmed, flushed and hit with nutes. 2,3, and 4 were hit with nutes as well. They were at about 107 with 17% humidity but i hit em with mist about once every 20 mins and they were fine.

For some reason my 100w lamp is having trouble firing. It wont even light if its plugged into a powerstrip alone, it has to be directly plugged into the wall.

Anyways, all 3 plants have started their 4th and 5th sets! I love em when their young and tight!
