Real amateur question

I am an occasional smoker who knows nothing about growing. As soon as I hear about lighting, growing mediums, and pH levels, my mind turns off. If I wanted to grow a plant and raised it like a normal house plant, would it even be worth smoking. Another question is would the plant die after it's done flowering. A buddy said that what happened to him. Thought it was a little odd since it's technically a weed.

well after it flowers the plant is dead anyway cause you cut it down to harvest. You can raise it like a normal plant if just want to get a little bit of bud

lol...gotta be one of the highest maintenance plants out there. Should be like other weeds that just grow out on the lawn and come back every year unless you pull it out by the roots

Hi RRSENIC - Thank you for your wonderful amateur question. I have been wanting to ask the same thing and have the same response to lighting, soils and endless methods. Good job brave soul.

weeds die just like every other plant out there lol. The only thing that can really "survive" on its own is grass, which is pretty much impossible to kill.

But yeah, marijuana plants are pretty difficult to grow. I mean, if you just want it as a plant, that's a different story. But if you want a harvast, than yeah, like any plant, it requires work.

Granted, I've grown a tomato plant before, and I can tell you that that is WAY harder than a marijuana plant.

Why is there so much emphasis on ph levels and the other meticulous preparation and set ups? Cannabis has been around and culitvated for 1000's of years without it. Is all this prep just so the plants can live? Or is it all for yield? Sorry to hijack

Imo, if you don't plan on at least some investment in effort and learning, then don't bother at all. There's plenty of good weed out there.

The fact that it's like a "weed" in some growth characteristics does not mean that you can just throw some seeds somewhere and come back couple of months for the awesome bud. Even weeds are adapted to a certain type of environment and then need that environment replicated in order to thrive. To grow mj you need to create it's natural environment during it's natural growing season-- which requires lots or correctly timed sunlight.

Besides, you don't just want the plant to barely survive. You want massive hocus pocus.
