Recommend 1000w ballast/hood?

Hey guys, got a few projects going on and I want to get an affordable but reliable 1000w hood and ballast. What recommendations do you have?

I already have a phantom 1000w digital dimmable, but it's definitely not the most affordable option at all! Though I'm using it with a virtual sun 6" cool tube hood which is a very affordable hood, I wonder what you guys recommend for a combo?

I do believe I like cooled hoods so I can keep things reasonable heat wise without having a portable ac involved, but am open to all suggestions :peace:

If you are in Michigan I have a handful of lumatek 1000 watt digital ballasts I am not using anymore and a 1000 watt digital galaxy that is about 3 months old I would let go for cheap.. few 8" raptor hoods as well.

Unfortunately I'm up in Maine my friend :wall:
What are you using now?

you'll prob get that answer from everybody here in the LED section

as far as what is the best hps out there right now id go with ushio pro plus bulb in a ACDE reflector and a solistek matrix or hydrofarm galaxy ballast. that rig is over $500 so LED is probably a better buy at the current time

Thanks for the input! I didn't mean to post in the LED section but there doesn't seem to be a high-pressure sodium section at all. Or am I missing something?

HPS is considered to be "the standard" and i usually discussed in the "indoor growing" section

not immediately obvious for sure with the other subforums, but to be fair, HPS alone isnt enough to carry a whole subforum as its last notable innovation was DE almost a decade ago, its kind of hit its arc, no pun intended.

this forum is for emerging tech, theres new LED news every week it seems

Hi I am a complete newb to this forum so forgive me if I'm not savvy with the whole thing. I'm setting up my first indoor grow in 15 years. I have a 1.2 x 1.2 x 2meter tent. And I stupidly bought 2 x 600W LED's and 1 x 300W LED lights off the internet without doing any proper research first. Now I read that not all LED lights are as effective as others and the expensive reputable brands are much better than cheaper, made in China jobs like mine. I'm in Western Australia going into Winter with days ~ 16-24 degrees Celsius and nights between 5 -15 degrees Celsius. Should I use a fan heater at night? And should I get a hps light to keep it warm in the days, or go with the LEDs I already have? I have solar power so plan to have lights on during the day. And have loads of space so am setting up a seedling/grow tent so I can harvest every 2 months. Any advice from you guys would be appreciated! An btw, any other female growers in this forum?

well in your favor is the chinese LEDs arent super efficient so they will put off some heat.

put your tent on a thermostatically controlled exhaust fan to keep temps in the proper range

a dehumidifier is a good heat-creating appliance useful for winter nights as well. i literally put mine in my tent this winter, draining fresh water right into the tray

A COB LED setup that would serve the same space as an 1k in a ACDE would cost twice that, how do you figure LEDs are a better buy?

$100 bulb replacement every 2 years (if it's just a flower tent light...10k/12/365) makes for a long payback period on the LEDs, unless your electricity is extremely expensive.

Your just going to have to get used to it. Try and help and be honest when ever you can around here.

Uhh...ok. I know this is an led forum but really?
Hello 1991,
Yeah, really. I've only been an LED guy for 3 or 4 months but I realize the error of my ways. I bought into the quantum board hype, I'm glad I did. I was running 1900 watts of hps,.. I was just running my boards at 960w and it was too much... I've since turned the lights down and still plan on smashing hps yields.

Good luck either way, nothing like growing your own no matter what light

Awesome, when you have the money to lay out. But a commercial 600W LED will cost about the same as 4 cheap 1000W fixtures.

The Nanolux DE's are right around 330.00 right now in California. Doing way over 2 pounds with small yielding strains with 4-5 weeks of veg time. Just throwing that out there.
