I dont think you should bump a thread thats only 9 hours old, it wasnt even off the first page yet.. sometimes you gotta wait a day for a response.

Theres not alot of room in a fridge and setting up ventilation will probably be a bitch, lighting will take away from height, which is already pretty tight. I mean having a little veg section on top and flower on bottom would be cool, but it would be alot of work to make a good grow box out of a fridge. plus it would be heavy to move. And its not gonna be a great hiding spot since who has random fridges in their basement (i know sometimes people have a second fridge but itll be awkward if someone goes to open it who you dont want to know of your plants.

Not trying to hate on your idea, I just dont think its worth the time and effort.

Plenty of people do it. Hell, people grow in computer shells. I say give it a try. Look around the stealth grow section - loads of ideas I bet.

Not saying it cant be done, I just feel its more work than its worth. Pc cases are totally different imo, alot more practical in terms of how ready to use it is. I think it would be alot easier to build something from scratch but thats just cause I am pretty good with that kind of stuff. I mean if he has access to a bunch of free fridges, go for it but fair warning its gonna be a bitch to get them set up properly in my opinion.

To the op whatever you do good luck

True. I mean I wouldn't do it. But fridges aren't as complicated as they may seem: it's really just an insulated box with a coil and some wires, plus you get the added benefit of temp control if you're able to fit your own thermostat.

It's nothing to drill some holes though it too. Easier than a wall.

fair enough, I just imagined it would be difficult to get adequate ventilation, and a bitch to cut through. Although thats probably because I cant afford all the power tools I want so things that require saws and stuff seem like more work than they are to me haha. One day though, Ill get a nice shop together *starts daydreaming*

I used a Dremel to cut through the plastic molding, then a hacksaw blade to slice off the foam insulation inside. Any drill runs through both like butter if you need a hole.

Pic upload seems broken here right now otherwise i'd share where i'm at with my little fridge mod.

Got an external thermostat running the fridge compressor for cooling and also a small peltier element for heating (switches between both). A separate controller is running a mini dehu kept inside the fridge, and i'm running tests to see how well it manages both.

I'm not venting but wouldn't take a minute to run a fan through the fridge wall.

Work in progress, but point is a fridge is more than up to the task as a controllable space.

Could be done easily, I suppose, especially if you have enough space. A holesaw on a drill will do just fine for making holes. Hasps can be added with padlocks if you don't want people in it. You can get rid of the compressor and copper tubing to save weight, and since it already has a cord, you can tap into that for stealth wiring. Not a bad idea if you do it right. You could even leave the compressor on there and use the existing ducting and just drill a few exit holes. Endless possibilities here
